I can see that the coolant reservoir has baffles or sections on the inside. How are they arranged and how does excess coolant vent from the reservoir? (2018, 3.6l, auto, Sport S)

Thanks.

Coolant no longer vents; modern cooling systems are sealed.

On second thought, if it is a sealed system, why does it need a pressure cap? What happens when the pressure exceeds the cap rating (21psi)?

To reach 21 psi, you would need to heat the coolant to something like 270 degrees.

Got it. The repair manual states:
"The cooling system will operate at pressures of 145 kPa (21 psi) above atmospheric pressure."
That suggests that the trigger temperature varies do to altitude.

Thank you for the response.
