I ordered a piston clamp to change my brake pads (rear), also my wife's car.
Is bleeding the brakes necessary?
Last time I changed pads was over a decade ago and can't remember if I did or not.

I didn't bleed them in either of my JLURs when I did front/rear pads in each. Just compressed the calipers, put in the new pads, then set the pads.

Use a C-clamp and compress the brake caliper.

It's OK to not bleed the caliper to push the piston back in, but go slowly. Don't try to move the piston too quickly.

Yeah I ordered a flat clamp, instead of the C clamp.

Some say to bleed, some don't.

Going to attempt anyways. Thanks
Hey 👋
Can you please post pics/video of the process of "bleeding" the brakes?
It would help when i go to mine as I'm not sure if I will be bleeding when replacing pads/rotors
Thx much

Dealer would need to bleed the brakes to fully get the old fluid out of the ABS pump anyways as it needs to be cycled with their computer. JSCAN is also claimed to be able to cycle the ABS pump to completely bleed the brakes.

No need to bleed the brakes when all you are doing is changing pads! And if you want them flushed go to the dealer as they have special equipment that open up the sensors to get all the old fluid out. Also, because you are asking maybe you should bring it in for the brake service or have a competent person assist you.

Simply pressing the piston back into the caliper does not introduce air into the system, so there is no need to bleed after replacing the pads.

I would loosen the Master cylinder reservoir cap before pushing the caliper piston back in.

Just note, the brake fluid should be flushed from time to time. There may be some recommended mileage, nothing in my manual. 75k-100k is a good place to start. This gets the moisture out of the brake system and flushes any particulate from the seals and cylinders.
