Change Manual Shift knob

Does anyone have experience removing their stock 6 speed Shift knob on a JL, to replace it with an after market?

From what I understand, it's a little more difficult to replace than previous models where the stock knob just yanks off.

I've seen an adapter for the JL shifter here:

No experience with the above adapter, but hoping someone else will weigh in. I really loved my DV8 'tire tread' shifters on my JK, I'm hoping they'll make a similar styled set eventually for the JL. So keeping this adapter in mind.

With the help of yall lovely people Im able to remove the shift knob with ease and i have the right adapter. Unfortunately the knob that i fell in love with is too small to even fit the adapter. so for now ill put this project on hold until i find a knob that im in love with - that fits.

I did it! The company I bought the adapter from (speeddawg) suggested I try Sick Speed for a knob with bigger threads. They don't have the right knob on their website, but I called and they do have the knob with the reverse on the left, you just have to ask them. I also went to lowes and purchased washers to get the numbers to line up.

^ This is good to know, so thanks for posting. I have a Rocknob (An actual river rock) from my JK that I am looking on using on my 6pd JL (once it arrives). The knob I’ve got has set screws so I’m hoping I can get it to fit. How does the reverse lock-out workout with your shift knob?

I positioned the adapter higher so I still have space to play with the reverse.
