I'm looking to replace the black leather looking ball on top of the 6 speed manual shift. Does anyone know how to replace the old one?
Mopar has it for 32 bucks but want to see if it's an easy fix
Thanks
I used this guy for all of my Subarus. He does custom work, so I think all he would really need is the thread pitch and depth. Excellent quality and good prices. My favorite for the subarus were white copolymer sphere with a brass insert for weight and color filled shift pattern. My WRX originally had an aluminum shift knob and it was too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter.
These can be very difficult to get off. That being said… mine came off in a couple of seconds using “the theory of applied violence”. I took an adjustable wrench, placed the jaws around the shaft below the stock knob, and gave it a love tap (upwards) with a 3 pound hammer. Darn thing popped off with nary a whimper. Check out Speed Dawg for replacement knobs.
