I went a little different direction. I widened the hole in the small coin stash cubby under the parking break with a drill (located under the rubber pad).

Then I fished the cable from underneath the plastic trim and ran it under the edge of the gearbox plastic trim up to the Media slot.

I prefer USB-C connection that USB-As my Google Phone charges very rapidly through USB-C.

It keep the console/transmission area tidy with no cables and allows me to use the port I prefer.

Still need to do my last two packs of Sugru to try to make it an even more supportive dock. Functionally, it’s dxcellent!

Hopefully, someone with access to a 3D printer can come up with a clean mount for between the cupholders. I live this idea and would happily handover my $.

Here’s another pic I found that I took. This is the driver’s side of the cup holder. You can see a tab at the top that snaps into the corresponding slot. Also there’s the hole I drilled.

Great mod but how did you remove the cupholders? Are you remove the hard plastic around the cupholder or just the rubber?

When I look on this thread it looks like it is not good to remove just the rubber:

Oh man it feels like it's been forever since I did this. If I recall correctly, I did remove the entire plastic section. I believe it just pulled up. You have to be careful and not pull up too far as the ambient lighting wires are connected at the bottom middle of the holder and they don't give you much spare wire to lift the holder up too far. I just drilled through the rubber and plastic at the bottom side where it shows in that blurry pic.

Received a free mount from the FCA affiliate rewards program. Won't work with my phone case though. The red piece is magnetic and has an adhesive on the back.

I use ProClip because I like the fact that I don't have to drill into anything, attach anything to my iPhone XS Max, or use any adhesive (though it includes a strip - which really isn't needed IMO). https://www.proclipusa.com/ It comes as two parts, the clip for your dash (depending on model) and the phone holder (depending on your phone). The holder for the 7/8 Plus works just fine for the XS Max.

I know this is an older post. But I just got our JL and ordered the ProClip mount like you did. I mounted it on the right side of the radio so the cable would be more neat (same side of radio as usb port) and not impair my vision. I will be getting another vehicle soon and will be giving the JL to my wife. I love the fact that I can take the phone mount itself with me and leave the part that attaches to the dash there for a mount for my wifes phone. Then just buy the vehicle side mount for whatever vehicle I buy.

I also got the ProClip mount, but I got the magnetic one with wireless charging. It's worked out pretty well, but sometimes it can be a little fiddly when attaching. If it's off-center and I don't confirm that it's firmly attached and charging, it can either fall off or it won't charge, but despite the minor annoyance, it's a lot easier than having to attach to a regular mount *and* plug it in.

Hello,

Here’s what I did to mount my phone. I spent about 70 dollars total. I think I have a solution that is comparable to the rail options on the market for half the price. It seems there are pros and cons to all the options but perhaps this is an alternative for you.

I can add more mounts, move things around, etc. For example, I have a go pro mount that can easily be added.

My next step is to run a USB port to the top of the dash so I don’t have wires hanging.

Thank you
Rick.
