I went a little different direction. I widened the hole in the small coin stash cubby under the parking break with a drill (located under the rubber pad).

Then I fished the cable from underneath the plastic trim and ran it under the edge of the gearbox plastic trim up to the Media slot.

I prefer USB-C connection that USB-As my Google Phone charges very rapidly through USB-C.

It keep the console/transmission area tidy with no cables and allows me to use the port I prefer.

Where do you put your phone while it's plugged in?

67 Designs. The ball is 20mm whereas Ram mounts use a 1” ball. 67Designs sells a 1” adapter clamp for their extension arms. Really clean setup. I’m waiting for my quadlock case and bracket to show up and I’ll be set.

And how did you fixed the ball to the dash? Drill? Or glue?

It comes mounted to a plate that has adhesive and screws.
I got mine installed yesterday. Its great but not perfect in my mind. The ball should have been raised a bit higher so that the arm can come down at an angle and not have the phone sit so high up. Also, the mag mount is "not for silicone cases" based on the sticker, but it shows that nowhere on the website. Otherwise the quality is great and very secure.

I use ProClip because I like the fact that I don't have to drill into anything, attach anything to my iPhone XS Max, or use any adhesive (though it includes a strip - which really isn't needed IMO). https://www.proclipusa.com/ It comes as two parts, the clip for your dash (depending on model) and the phone holder (depending on your phone). The holder for the 7/8 Plus works just fine for the XS Max.

Love it. I have used them in several cars and months ago when I checked they did not have a solution yet.

Everything off Amazon as follows:

iPad set up:
1-Foot USB Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01COD9OVQ/ref=twister_B078MW9GC6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
RAM-B-201U-A - Composite Short Double Socket Arm
RAM-B-367U - Motorcycle Clamp Base 1 Inch Ball with Bolts
RAM-HOL-UN8BU - X-Grip Cradle (for iPad Mini)
Note for install I drilled all the way through chicken bar and secured with a nut. Solid!

For Cellphone:
10-Foot USB Cable https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0721456BZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
RAM-B-166-UN7U - Complete Suction Cup Base with Arm & Cradle
Note for install I ran the cable under the dash down console to connect to rear USB plug. Do NOT get a cheap cable - it will not carry the signal and constantly disconnects from UConnect System because of distance to source.
What do you mean by saying you "drilled all the way through the chicken bar"? What's a "chicken bar"?

Here's what I did...

I hate wires and clutter, so I bypassed the traditional mount and ordered this item called Nite Ize Steelie Dash Mount from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BAQKRHY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

{EDIT: the mount and the magnet on the back of the phone are both ADHESIVE, so very easy to remove with a little floss. It'll be interesting to see how the mount holds up in the Texas summer heat.}

Then I bought some cheap 6 inch lightening cords:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07892M9LK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

All of it is very low profile and minimal. And here are some pics of the final result:

Don't you find it's a bit far away from your driving line-of-sight?

Not really. But for me, as someone who doesn't really use a phone all that often, line of sight wasn't important. Minimizing wires/cords was paramount.

Plus, when connected, all things come thru the uconnect screen so I'm really never looking at the phone itself.

Looks great but the pics in the instructions don't really help too much. I don't see any instructional videos either. It's a shame because this looks like it fits perfectly.
I also installed the Pro Fit mount but used the J-Stem extension that comes with the kit so it does not block the touch screen. This link will help to remove AC controls, bezel, and touch screen which is very easy to do. Install instructions: https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/55f2cc_dbcc2e96ae444380ab5f418df99b5ac3.pdf
