So I was jumping off the battery in my wife's RAM 1500 the other day and I noticed that you can't rev the motor on the 4xe in Neutral...or in Park for that matter. You can't even get the motor to turn on in Park from a cold start unless you put it D first then manual.

Am I overlooking something here or is there a way to rev the engine just a little if one wanted to? Like, say to jump off a large truck, or to run a winch, or if you have a pedestrian going super slow in the crosswalk?

When jumping someone off, if you have the jeep on and running, opening the hood will trigger the engine to come on. Side note: it really doesn't matter engine on or not if I understand correctly, I believe the 12v battery is charged by a dc-dc converter from the hybrid battery, not even charged by the engine directly like a traditional alternator. This would therefor negate the need to force it on while running a winch.

I'm 95% sure though that I can hit the throttle in park and kick the engine on anytime, or if I am in drive already concerning a slow pedestrian, kicking it into manual will kick the engine on. E-save battery charge mode would also force it to run more frequently/almost constant.

Thanks for replying.

Yeah, I can get it to come on, but when the engine is running and the Jeep is in Park or Neutral, hitting the accelerator does nothing. I have to say the engine didn't even flinch when I started my wife's truck so I'm sure it's not really an issue. I'm mainly curious if there is even a way to do this? Also, I wouldn't ever want to be in D with a pedestrian in front of me and hit the accelerator just to rev the motor, but I was able to throw my last Jeep in N when a pedestrian stopped dead in front of me to check a message that came in on his phone. Hitting the accelerator in that instance has very desirable effects on people. I just find it odd that you only have control of the accelerator when in drive.

This sounds like a good opportunity to put it in electric with the external speakers disconnected and see how close you can get before they realize it, and get a set of train horns. I think that would have a much more desirable effect than revving a quiet 4cyl engine.

Revving an engine at pedestrians is a very strange behaviour, if some donkey did that at me, I would walk even slower, maybe stop and check emails.

I find some people do that revving thing in school zones at kids riding bicycles lol

so what you’re saying is that you’re a disrespectful, ignorant prick. And I do not know what part of the country you live in, but I have never seen anyone executing jack-ass behavior in school zones as you describe. I have lived in Louisiana, Texas and Israel, and every community I have ever been a part of has always been perfectly respectful in school zones. Sucks to be you and the hateful community you live in.

The irony of a Texan talking about respectful school zones to a Canadian is not lost here. Lmao.

I am actually living in Israel at the moment. The culture here is pretty abrupt and emotional, but I have never seen adults disrespect school zones or any children’s spaces for that matter. The concept of someone acting aggressively to children riding bicycles is pretty sick and I have personally never seen such behavior. Must be a rough part of town ??

Revving an engine is about as aggressive as anyone gets around schools in Canada. We are good with that.

Wow you win the most ironic post of the day award. A shame you don't live closer. You seem like a really cool dude.

So it's all good fun, no need for us to get uppity about anything with our forum buddies. To be honest, if someone gets an engine revved while they're in a compromised position it's a great lesson to pay attention to your surroundings. I mainly mentioned the engine rev thing and pedestrians as a benign joke. We used to do it to each other in college if we'd see a friend we knew in the crosswalk. Mainly my rugby buddies. I have done it to strangers twice in the 25 years since. Not concerned with opinions as we all have excellent friends and also people who think we're douches.

To the point at hand, is it possible with the 4xe and how would one go about doing it should you want? No big deal.

In this college town the students are insanely self absorbed and many take much longer to cross the street than necessary. I just remember when I was a student and we didn't have a push button that would cause every light in the vacinity to flash advising traffic you wanted to cross, we actually crossed with a purpose so as not to imposition others. They DGAF today and take their time no matter how long it takes. Not all of them, mind you but enough. Many kids today need a lesson in respect for others as they aren't the only people who matter. It's just a matter of courtesy. I don't mind stopping for you, but please also give me the respect of not taking your time to do so.
