Hello,

After two tears of hearing an excessive rattle at startup, I finally had a dealer acknowledge that they could hear an abnormal rattle. They removed the left valve cover and found the phaser pin not locking. So they replaced the cam phaser, and the rattle is now gone.

Today, after driving a few miles, I noticed a strong "burnt coolant" odor. I couldn't find a leak and assumed they spilled some on the engine. However, the burnt antifreeze odor is still there after spraying the engine and driving a while.

Upon looking for a leak, I noticed a few plastic tabs broken, gasket sealant still on the engine, the grill, and this just flopping around with a sheared-off fastener. Bringing it back to the dealer tomorrow to confirm there is no leak and fix other issues.

Hoping they didn't half-ass install the cam phaser...

Would appreciate it if someone could tell me what the part flopping around is.

Thanks!

What do you mean gasket sealant still on the engine?

That’s a wiring harness, that little orange dot stuck in the intake is a fastener to hold that whole thing in place. Just replace it.

Thanks! Just old gasket pieces… The smell of coolant, the broken fasteners and the left over gasket made me question the quality of the service, especially after it was there for a week.

I took another ride and the coolant smell is still stong. I have the appointment for tomorrow.

Considering that your coolant jug looks empty, I'd say you have a leak.
