I run a stock 2020 JL with a 3.0L EcoDiesel. It's fine, but I don't make an effort to punch the pedal, unless I have to getting on the highway. I tend to get 26mpg on the low end and 28mpg on the high end as long as I'm not city driving (city driving eats through my fuel economy a ton). I do have to punch it hard to go up hills on dirt roads, but it's happy to comply when I push down on the pedal. The only thing that really sucks about the diesel is how much DEF I go through since I tend to go up and over mountain passes a lot.
It has a lot more oomph than the 2000 the Jetta diesel I used to have. Fun to drive -- just sucks how much diesel costs where I live and that the engines aren't tuned to accept more than 20% biodiesel.

It's not really about punching the pedal. It's about adjusting the pedal to your preference and desired output. Similar to how you adjust your seat to your preference, the same with any pedal sensitively adjustment device. Some, like myself, want a quicker reaction to what their foot does and others, like my wife, are fine with it being slower — which is why I have to adjust it down anytime she drives my vehicles. I will say that city +4 makes it feel more like my Cummins does in it's effortless acceleration.

This sounds like the perfect application for the compliant GDE tune...

i played around with the settings a bit at first and ended up leaving it in the mid-range on the City scale, IIRC. (i also have the iDash, so it's even easier to change there than using the phone app.)
don't really change it at all anymore, on road, off-pavement, in snow, or anywhere else. it just works like it feels like it's supposed to feel.

In 4-low I put it in Eco mode which makes the throttle less responsive to input than stock. It works very well. I have the app on my phone so it is just a push of a button.

The 3rd Gen EcoDiesel is the greatest 3.0 Diesel engine EVER made in terms of efficiency. It is not for the incompetent on how modern diesels work today. You must treat it right and be educated on this engine or it will not be reliable. I learned A LOT with the right tech group on FB. This is the case with all modern diesel. The fuel and how much ash goes out is very important to avoid issues. Low ash oil and low ash additives or DPF will have issues sooner. The wrong additive in the fuel will make issues later.

GDP afterlife tune is a good option. I have all my emissions and love it! I know how to care for it and it will be reliable and no smoke or smells. You can do GDE afterlife delete as well.

I don't know about the Ecodiesel being the best 3.0L diesel ever., I would take a BMW 3.0L inline-6 diesel in my Jeep any day over the Ecodiesel. While both have similar power numbers, the BMW inline-6 feels like it has more low end grunt closer to a Cummins inline-6. Plus, it's strong internals are known for handling 600+ hp. I miss my old 335d, but it got t-boned and totaled.

the emissions systems kill a diesel. i get it and im not against it, but as someone who loves diesel trucks and owns one, ill never have one w/ that shit attached.

Not the best diesel ever I said, the best diesel in terms of efficiency in the 3.0 category

I have a love and hate relationship with emissions keep it because I don’t wanna take a soot into the lung. It is a Group one carcinogenic.

You can make it very, very reliable, even for many many many hunters of thousands of miles. Yes it’s gonna take a lot of effort on your part. Tell me an issue and I’ll tell you how to avoid it.

im not getting off this rock alive and ive put way worse shit in my lungs.

im not against emissions, but im against implements on vehicles that restrict them and lower their dependability. plus, like modifying a gas vehicle for more power, its just awesome. :bandit:

It can yes but as I was saying you can make them VERY dependable but it requires much more attention to details. Like for example, the soot builds in the intake. Solution is Snow performance water/meth injection. The thier 2.5 stage is the one Im going to install. 1st stage pre intercooler and 2nd pre throttle body. It make it look new in the intake and intercooler and cools down as well. Maybe some MPG gain but underload because it kicks in after a set PSI. Also. less NOx.
