Hello, I had to replace my thermostat so went ahead and did a flush.
I have back flushed the heater core by removing supply and return hoses. I also flushed the radiator and block through the open t-stat housing.
A couple of question;

1) How do you “burp” the system since there is no radiator cap?

2)What is the torque for the thermostat, plastic housing?

Thanks for your help.

1) The quick and arguably best way is to use a vacuum fill device. I've done it by filling and running/driving, check add, repeat.

2) 10 n-m or 89 inch pounds.

Jack up the front end and fill. Gravity will burp out the air.

It’s fully unnecessary on the JL, just fill it up.

Hello, so why is that with the JLs?
I looked into renting the vacuum, no stores had one.
I flushed it 3 times and it did not seem to have an issue with air blockage when I refilled it.
But I could never really get all the used fluid out, just what came out of the radiator, heater core and reservoir, I even blew through the core intake and thermostat.
the most I got out was about 5 quarts measured on the last drain out after flushing. Since I could not get all the used fluid out I dumped 2 gallons of distilled water through the heater core and t-stat housing to make sure what was left in the block was clean water.
Good thing the coolant I bought was concentrated. I put in about 6 quarts of coolant, maybe not quite 50-50 but i think its going to be ok.

The JL uses a pressurized coolant reservoir with a permanent air bleed hose. Coolant constantly flows into and through the reservoir. It is positioned at the highest point and does a very good job.
