Just curious, is anyone else using any sort of lubricant on the oil cap threads during an oil change? In an effort to be very gentle on oil filter housing, I've been using just a bit of SIL Glyde on the threads and I make sure to take my time while loosening or tightening the cap. Seems to work better than just oil.

Anyone else?

I clean the threads on both the cap and the housing and only lube the gasket. I am on my 5th 3.6 and that is how I have always done it. never had an issue.

Same. I take the cap inside and wash it with Dawn and wipe/scrub it out on my vehicles in general if needed. I use a couple of drops of new oil to lube the seal and only use an inch lb torque wrench set to 216 in lbs.

I have the 2.0L in my Jeep, so I don't have the "O" rings to deal with.

However....I wrenched on OTR trucks and trailers for many years. One of the many things we did in the shop was to rebuild Eaton-Fuller transmissions. Eaton has a special lubricant for the "O" rings for the shift cylinders. It is incredible stuff and if you are having troubles getting parts to slip together, a little bit of the lube makes life so much better.

I had a lot of tubes of the stuff that came in the rebuild kits in my tool box for many years and finally used them all up. I wound up buying a new pint container of the stuff. I have enough now to last the rest of my life.

It is kind of expensive, but a pint will last you 20 years. This is the best price I can fined.....71203 Eaton Fuller Transmission Lubricant 8 Oz.
