But, did you know that if you close the rear vents, turn your AC on and put a couple of sodas in the center console it will cool them right down?

Obviously not ice cool but refreshing enough on a hot day.

I know this is an old post, but I'm trying to figure out how to add or turn my center console into a refrigerator.

A/C vents already run through the center console to the rear. When I close off my rear vents the console gets and stays cool with the A/C on.

But it is almost impossible to know if I am lying or not. I mean, you would actually have to close your rear vents and turn your A/C on and go for a drive with a beverage in the center console and then actually open it up and see if the beverage is cold or cool. So yeah, virtually impossible to confirm on your specific vehicle.

A/C vents already run through the center console to the rear. When I close off my rear vents the console gets and stays cool with the A/C on.

But it is almost impossible to know if I am lying or not. I was actually looking into what you were saying yesterday. Because it is a pretty ingenious idea if you can modify those back vents.

I found this photo on a different thread...

Based on the location of these, I'm kind of thinking it wouldn't be too hard to drill a hole through the back of the center console box, maybe connected small tube that can insert into the vent pipe and direct cold air into the center console box. At that point to protect the center console box from condensation, I can try and find a small square plastic bucket that can fit neatly into the center console box, put a hole in that, and have the small tube go through it, and pump cold air into the plastic bucket where you drinks are.

If I were to design that correctly, I could make the plastic tube have a stopper on it. So when I want to use the rear vents and not dump cold air into the center console box, I can place a plug into that tube.

I don't know if anyone else can picture this. ?‍

I'm a very visual person, so I can definitely picture it myself. Here's a representation of what I'm thinking:

The tube would be easy enough to get, and figuring out where to drill wouldn't be all to difficult, and melding the tube where it connects to the event wouldn't be hard either. I feel like finding the right sized bucket would be the most difficult. I also feel like finding a white bucket would be awesome. Nothing says cold quite like white, I mean look at the inside of your refrigerator/freezer.

Well your idea takes it to a whole new level. ????

But be advised, removing and replacing the center console is no joke. I had to swap out a part on mine and it involved several hours of unscrewing and rescrewing and wire routing etc…. Pulling it out to drill a hole or two and install a tube or two would be easier but still a job.

Try what I did first if you can. Close the vents, throw a room temp can or two into it, turn on AC and go for a drive. Then test/check. Did it get cool enough for you? If it is close, I’m pretty sure your idea will make it even cooler.

I generally never take an ice chest so a cool drink, while not ice cold, is far better than a warm one.

And don’t mind me, Im a sarcastic bhole.

I think it will work but for me it's of no use while off-roading. I 2nd a bag of ice and a small cooler.

Don't get me wrong, I'm definitely going to be purchasing a Joytutus refrigerator at some point. There's this YouTuber who gives you a code (which still works 3 years later) which gives you 20% off. So you can get a 40L cooler that's really nice quality and all the features you need and none of the ones you don't, for about $280 w/ free shipping!!

Big savings over somebody like dometic who wants $2,000 for the same damn thing with all the bells and whistles you don't need.

@rkwfxd I will definitely try your way first. Kind of like you said, if it gets cold enough for me, it doesn't make sense to build a cooler situation which will take me a lot of time, if I'm just going to be buying a standalone refrigerator in another couple years. The amount of long trips I take isn't really enough to warrant mutilating that part of my Jeep if I can get it cold enough for free without any holes.
