Buffer Recommendations

I need a buffer. I have clay stains in my paint and in general want something for when it's time for a full detail. I have a cheap Harbor Freight I bought a long time ago and it is better than nothing but would like to buy something better.

Don’t by a circular polisher, those are for experienced users because it’s too easy to get poor results or even damage your finish and make it worse. You want the best random orbital polisher you can afford. Use it with medium cut foam pads and a suitable polish that’s made for machine application. The Porter Cable 7424XP or one if it’s many clones is kind of the granddaddy of random orbitals, used by novices and pros. Many competitors make a clone model that looks or functions essentially the same.

And calling it a buffer is kind of equivalent to people calling a Jeep a car. It’s a polisher.

Highly recommend the Griot's line. Either the G9, G15, or G21.

I've got a PC 7424XP and a Rupes Bigfoot 21 that are both orbital and a DeWalt 849 rotary polisher. Stick with the orbital version and buy the best one you can afford. The better ones will have a larger throw and will be counterbalanced to minimize the amount of vibration that is transferred to you. Ammo NYC (Larry) has a lot of great information on his site and YouTube.
