That’s what happens when you put larger tires on a vehicle that wasn’t designed for them without the appropriate supporting mods.

It was not a simple axle failure. :)

That’s a common housing failure with the three-piece front axle. With the FAD or EDD. Remember these type of stupid housings are not new they were used in the Dodge straight axle trucks in the old jeeps and they did the same thing if you abuse them. A company called Dyna trac does a conversion and they get rid of that two-piece and replace it with a one piece. The axle tube itself is strong it’s the cast piece that they press into that breaks where the axle coupler is for the axle disconnect.
The Fix What you’re going to see as a fix come first is there going to have a steel tube that they pound in the inside to give it some extra strength we’re all these pieces pressed together that will be the most economical cheap aftermarket fix that you will see first.

Based on what @Kevin8086 and Brit are doing with jl on 38’s there is a real story with this one,

Saw on a post (Instagram I think) he went full send with 38's, but wasn't confirmed. I think if I was running 37's or larger I'd consider an axle truss just to be safe. Of course I wouldn't be going all "Hold my beer, watch this." in my rig anyways.

posted in my local jeep site. Owner said that they were wheeling at night and did not see a tree stump that they hit (obviously at a good rate of speed). Guess he needed a bigger light bar.

Hey everyone, so I have been investigating the steering wobble issue on my new JLU. It’s stock. No upgrades. 1200 miles now. The problem is getting worse. So I put it on a lift and started checking things were properly tightened myself. Everything seemed to check out. One of the techs at my buddies shop noticed this. It appears the axle weld has failed and the tube is moving inside the differential case. Anyone experiencing this issue on the JL yet? Could this cause the wobble or be the issue in this guys axle breaking. I don’t know but it’s a concern. See pics.

Going fast and smashing into a hidden rock.....just because you could doesn't mean you should. That is clearly a blunt force impact.
