Sure, maybe. But none of us here did that, I don't think. We all got the OTA update and woke up to a white screen.
There's a post on the very first page of this thread of an OTA update downloading, the aircard eating shit immediately afterwards, and the resulting update bricking the device. And while a dead aircard isn't the only reason for a failed update, it is the most common. This is because UConnect updates also update firmware on the aircard and the update process isn't developed in a way to deal with that failure properly. There's also the possibility that an aircard going bad (but still works generally for GPS) corrupts an update download which also results in bricking the device.

Regardless of such, how the update is delivered is irrelevant. My original reply was a comment on the update process itself and how it's poorly written. A dead aircard or bad download shouldn't brick a device during an update and the software should be written in a manner to restore its previous state regardless.

My VIN has shown this “available update” since 2018. I surpassed that version after the first OTA update during summer 2018. Useless site.

Anyone who wants to spend $99 on a map update will get the latest 39.6 software version.

Yeah, FCA is terrible at keeping that site updated. However, there are other sources for more recent updates for 2018 radios that have been linked on the site. But mark my words: if your aircard is dead, do NOT update your UConnect or you will brick your device.

Just got this in an email. Pretty cool. Wonder if it's compatible with the brink currently in my car?

Has anyone successfully installed this latest navigation software update?
Installed mine today. I had to do the software first - no problems. Then the maps and I had to call their customer service to get activation code. The URL in the instructions didn't work for some reason. Once I put in the activation code, it took off on it's own. It does take about 30 minutes for each update/upgrade (system and also maps). No complaints now that it's in. I can see roads that weren't on the original version.

Jeep "lost" my order. They have no record of it, no status, it's just gone. So now the dealer has to order another one which they won't be able to track, won't be able to provide a status on, and may or may not ever show up.

This has gone from mildly irritating to full on unacceptable. I can't even sell the #^$*&*# car because it's got no @%&*^* radio!

Fool me once FCA... fool me once....

Do you know what OTA update caused the aircard to fail?

So my 2018 JLUR bricked with Error Code: 20 via the OTA update. Dealer replaced the radio after waiting almost 2 months for the replacement to arrive. Everything is good except the connected services. Nav works fine. SiriusXM radio works fine. Off-Road pages are there.

It's just the remote App services (remote start, vehicle locator, etc), the SOS and Assist buttons (screen states SOS call failed), and on-board wifi. Anyone else seeing this issue after replacement?

The software update itself doesn't cause the card to fail. I think the unit overheats while downloading and/or installing and kills it.

The first batch of UAQ units they put in the 2018 Wranglers used to get extremely hot and there isn't a lot of room behind the dash for that heat to vent. The shell of the UConnect acts as a heatsink (and not a very good one) and cheap thermal paste is sandwiched between the aircard and the side with fins. I'm sure the UConnect sitting in between the center vents don't do it any favors when you're running warm air, either.

I don't know if revisions made to later units physically changed any hardware (the card itself doesn't appear to be any different) or optimized the software in a way to run it more smoothly and cooler. My replacement unit doesn't get super hot like my original one did, nor does the unit in my Challenger.

These services probably need to be associated with the new radio. I don't believe they automatically transfer over.
