I drove my new 19 home from Houston to San Antonio. Followed all the guidelines, did it right.

At 36k the motor had to be replaced...

You probably didn't change the oil before you started for the drive home. ;)

The fact that you asked the question shows you're already ahead of most. Considering many new vehicle owners drive their vehicles some distance home after purchase, one would think manufacturers would put the drivetrain break-in procedures on page 1 of the manual or in the "quick start" guide, instead of burying them on page 192 or somewhere.
The manufacturer put it on page 192 and not in the Quick Start guide because that was the priority they decided on.

I never worry about engine break-in. IMO its not needed.
But if it makes you feel better, follow the manual to a T.

I wouldnt tow much weight for the first 500ish miles. At least not heavy.

There is no guide that says "if you drive like this, your engine will die at exactly xxxxxx miles".

Every single new vehicle I have ever driven at dealership has gone WOT from a stop to 60-80mph. Including the ones I bought. I have never had an engine mechanical issue.

Im not saying you should do this. I think you should do what makes you sleep well. IMO it doesnt matter whatever you decide. If it breaks, it was going to break no matter what you did.

Well dont hold it WOT for 5 mins in neutral. Thats not good ever.

There's a break-in period? Lol I think I had maybe 20 miles before I was redlining up a snowy/rock climb.

Pretty sure you can drive it however you want, and If you have issues on your brand new jeep, let the dealer deal with it.

That’s true.
I have a buddy who has a 18’ JL and he didn’t even let it break in and he realized he made the worst mistake later. So I’m just learning from them you know, not sayin’ ima be perfect on all this but you might wanna consider babying it around when you’re spending 50-60k on a vehicle. Last thing you want is blowing it all up, am I right?
It would be nice to know what went wrong and how the dealer diagnosed the problem.
