Passing by the Jeep dealer this morning and just pulled in to look at a High Velocity Sahara. I guess I haven’t looked at the 2023’s (I have a 2022 Rubicon). Anyway I noticed this big piece of steel in the right front wheel well. Thought it might be something for a 4XE it it appears to be on all models and it’s only on the right side. The pavement was wet so I didn’t get down for a look. Anyone with a 2023 know what it is or it’s purpose.

Started getting put on halfway through the year on 22s I believe but it’s supposed to help with rollovers and keep the passenger wheel from going up under the Jeep. Fairly well known and multiple threads on the subject.

It's an anti-roll over bracket added from the offset crash testing resulting in a roll over. Instead of the tire pushing under the frame and flipping the jeep it is supposed to direct it outwardly.

Seems fairly safe to assume, then, that it's not really doing anything useful if your Jeep is lifted and running offset wheels and larger tires, yeah?

I've been pondering pulling mine off, since it doesn't really seem to be doing anything useful for anything more than scratching boulders with.

I doubt it would do much for a lifted jeep. The only reason I haven't pulled mine off is I'd have to pull my rock rails to get to the top bolt.

If you believe the engineers, it'll probably be useful in a crash...just sayin'

In a factory specification wrangler, sure.

My post mentions lift, offset wheels, 4" larger tires... I doubt the bracket is really doing anything useful anymore once the specs have been changed that much. The odds that it still deflects the tire the correct direction at that point are slim to none. Could even be doing more harm than good, for all I know.

Thanks for the answers. I didn’t recall seeing it before, but haven’t been on a Jeep lot since last November when I had one of my Jeep Wave oil changes. Interesting that it’s only on the passenger side. I too would have to wonder about its worth on a lifted Jeep.

Why do they only have it on the passenger side and not the driverside?

It's all about the way they do the crash testing. No need to put it on the drivers side if they aren't crash testing it in a way that it causes the jeep to roll. In my opinion it's less about actually making the Jeep safer and more about skewing the test result in Jeeps favor.

Agreed, that's the problem with controlled tests like this. You can design something that works great in that very specific scenario, and that doesn't always mean much when it comes to real life scenarios that will almost never reflect the perfect conditions of the test.

As far as Jeeps, and especially lifted ones, the roll over risk is likely higher than the tests show anyway. They crash into concrete taller than the front of the jeep. If you offset crash into pretty much any car out there, it's going under your bumper like a ramp. This bracket clearly isn't going to do anything to stop your 35"+ tires from climbing that Camry and rolling your Jeep.

And not gonna lie, I'm PROUD of the fact my jeep can climb that Camry

If you're going to hit them, square up and go dukes of hazard. The offset crash is the worst for front seat occupants and their legs anyway even if the vehicle stays upright.
