Back when I was selling tires CR rated the Firestone 500 radial tire the best you could buy. One year later the entire Firestone 500 line had to be recalled when dozens of deaths were attributed to it because it came stock on the very popular Ford Explorer. CR has never been credible in my mind since then. WHo do you think has time to fill out the surveys? People who are keyboard warriors that tell you how good their cars are without ever driving them.

Politely disagree as an owner and driver of BMWs for the last 35+ years. Especially the G-generation vehicles and drivetrains are bulletproof. The B58 is the best inline-6 engine currently on the market and in the history of inline-6’s. There are as of now plenty of 150k+ mile examples out there already.

Plenty of manufacturers realized this too and started buying their drivetrains from BMW in the last 3-5 years: Toyota, Land Rover, Ineos. Also racing brands: McLaren, DiTomaso, Morgan. Just to name a few.

The pains of the E-generation BMWs are long gone.

The one thing that, subjectively, BMW royally fucked up as of late is their designs. Holy sh** have these things become abominable.
My 14' F10 with N55 and 6MT is approaching 200k miles.

BMW at number 2? Tells me all I need to know about the credibility of this list.
Even before that, the fact that it's consumer reports told me all I needed to know.

Jeep has been making some truly awful cars lately. Wrangler isn't one of them.

My jeep is the only vehicle that makes me feel like im storming the beach at Normandy. Jeep motors all around me are falling left and right, as i push on!

what other brand can give you that experience? And for only $60k at that?! Jeep truly has no equal! :jk:

It’s discouraging to see American brands occupy 6 of 10 “worst“ slots, and only 2 of 10 “best” slots.

Then I remember that Consumer Reports gets it wrong more often than not. Their direction on appliances repeatedly steered us to the landfill. Now we look elsewhere for shopping advice.
Pay attention fo customer complaints.....they will show up much more often than positive responses.

The ratings are based on the averages of new vehicles’ overall score, which factors in results from road tests, safety assessments and reliability and owner satisfaction surveys.

Kinda…

In the past (and I assume the present) Wranglers have received poor driving/performance/safety scores from CR because, they’re less linear/responsive to abrupt control inputs, they have “worst in class brakes”, their center of gravity is high, the road noise is louder than other “similar” vehicles, the ride is rougher, the interior is “less evolved and refined”, and so on. They’re right about the Wrangler’s crappy brakes (although the brakes are much better than they used to be), but many of their other comparisons reflect poor understanding of jeep’s design choices. They‘re measuring the Wrangler through the lens of Toyota Highlander and Honda CRX fans. Obviously, they’re missing the point. If asked, I’d agree that a Wrangler Rubicon makes a lousy Toyota Highlander or Honda CRX, just as they make lousy Jeeps.

CR is as reputable as the “news” outlets covering politics. The majority of their staff couldn’t tell you the difference between a camshaft and a crankshaft.

They slobbered over foreign makers for years because they were “greener” than the American companies.

Ford doesn’t make either list but Lincoln does? Weird.
