Jeep Wrangler JL Best Setup for RV Flat Tow C51004D1-BEFA-4BDF-A19B-6C789D744B93
Here’s my completed tow bracket setup on my JLUR with the factory steel bumper option. I installed some Blue Ox tow bracket safety cables to go from my brackets and wrap around the frame just for an added layer of protection. Took it on a nice bumpy test ride and everything worked great.

So, you have no base plate attached to the frame? You have 4 bolts into the steel bumper that secure the females where your draw bar attaches. I have flat towed Wrangler's (behind Class A) for thousands and thousands of miles. I question your type of set-up versus a baseplate install. I myself will go with a baseplate install. Admit in the pic your install looks pretty but...

To each his own I appreciate your concern

I have towed my 2007 JK Unlimited that I bought new for well over 20,000 miles Behind my 39 ft DP. This set up is a replication of the tow plate made by Currie industries.Behind the bumper I added two straps to the frame as well as safety cables wrapped around the frame going to the brackets. I’m comfortable with it.

Yes, to each his own as you say. Curious, why you did not opt to go with a base plate set-up versus your steel bumper mod ? Trying to save ?, got tired of waiting for base plate offerings? .....

Always liked the Currie tow plate option for the JK. When I saw how substantial the steel front bumper and skid plate were on my new Rubicon I decided to replicate the Currie application. I wasn’t going to replace my front bumper and I don’t care for the looks or the clearance issues on the base plates for Wranglers. Besides anybody can put a base plate on. What a conversation piece this is around my jeep buddies.

Thanks for the info on the JL ship mode. I did always pull up the IOD fuse up when I towed my JK and was wondering what the similar solution would be on the JL. I’ll give it a try.

@Dcmtfam

How are you addressing the steering wheel lock when flat towing. I do not have a JL/JLU yet.

On the JL there’s no steering wheel lock. It’s a pushbutton start. If you have access to an online version of the owners manual look up recreational towing. With the pushbutton start it’s pretty cool all you need to do is get the transfer case in neutral put the transmission in park and that’s pretty much it on the vehicle side. I watched the video and tried putting my JLUR in ship mode about 20 times and it doesn’t do it. In the video it looks pretty basic. I’m taking it to the dealer on Tuesday so I’ll ask them about the ship mode.

Just found out from dealer that ship mode is unavailable after vehicle has 200 miles on the ODO.

The dealer did say that the recreational towing light wiring harness should be available for the JL soon .And hopefully the brake light situation might be addressed at that time.

I would love to know that for sure on the mileage for the ship mode. And if it did work for them I’d like to know exactly what they did. Thanks

After your post here about the 200 mi. thing, I reached out to two other JLU owner's with more then 200 mi. NO they cannot enable ship mode so apparently your dealer gave you good info.

I have deleted any reference to ship mode in any posts I have made.

I also messaged the guy that did the YouTube video in regard to Ship Mode and told him about the 200 mi. limitation.
