If wheels are beadlock capable but the tires can also be mounted normally and used with a simulated beadlock ring, are they road legal when used in that configuration?

Yes sir. Are you referring to Dirty Life or AEV?

You can run bead locks on the street as well, but they really aren't necessary unless you're planning on airing down below 10 PSI very frequently. I have never been stopped or cited for bead locks on the road here in TX.

Either. Was looking at Dirty Life.

I was fairly certain that running beadlocks on the street is not likely something that would likely get you stopped and cited although it is illegal. Kind of like dark tint, no front plate, etc. depending on where you live. But I was curious if they are actually legal on road or not. Thanks.

Sorry, the answer to your question is yes. If you mount the tire on the wheel in the standard position they are considered DOT legal. When you mount them using the optional beadlock ring they become "offroad use only" and are no longer DOT rated.

"One of the biggest looks in off-road wheels are beadlocks, but for those that cannot run non-DOT wheels, this has been an issue. Dirty Life released a new DOT-Approved beadlock wheel that will give everyone the availability to run beadlocks.

“The wheels can be mounted in two different positions,” Joe Podlovits explained. “If you mount the wheel from the front to the back on the J-lip the wheel is in a DOT or street legal position. If the tire is mounted to the front bead with a race ring, it would put the wheel in an off-road only use position.”

Thanks. I understood your first answer, I guess I wasn’t clear about that in my second post.

However, since you’re kind enough to address my questions so knowledgeably, I’ll ask one more. The matte black DT-1 is available in 17x9 5x127 with -12mm offset and 4.53” backspacing; or 17x9 5x127 with -38mm offset and 3.5” backspacing. Which would you recommend for a JLUR with 2.5” lift?

I would go with the 4.5” version. I had a set of these in those specs for our JL, but decided to go another route. They are a nice wheel. Let me know if you need help!
