Better than the dude that embedded the chip for his Model Y in his hand.@keeperman13
It's an RFID chip in play... (housed in the end of the fob) At the thread mentioned above you can learn lots about the factory fob..
Funny... on Facebook there is a gal on a group there that has glued the JL, RFID chip to her long, artificial fingernail. She starts her JL daily with a finger push.
Yes, all you need is just the tiny RFID chip out of the factory fob to start your JL. No circuit board or battery is needed..
What is this 'owners manual' thingy you are talking about???As per the owners manual, you can start the jeep using the fob to push the start button if the battery dies.
...and don't fill up with E85...Moral of the story folks...read the owner's manual before or after delivery to familiarize yourself with the vehicle.
Right? They can warn you of low blinker fluid, they ought to be able to fit in a little convenience item like ignition key funtion. It will start as already mentioned but having a spare battery is always a great idea.
Our JLU is our 3rd vehicle now with keyless start, the other 2 have always warned when the fob battery is low, I would hope that Jeep added those few lines of code into the JLU as well.
My wife kept the key to her Corvette in a closet near the garage door. We couldn't figure out why the battery in the car would die so frequently. A friend called someone in a local Corvette club and he said if the key is in proximity to the car it "wakes" the car up and prepares it to be driven. We keep the key farther from the garage and haven't had an issue since.it has proximity sensing which causes the 4R to constantly ping the key fob
Is this RFID chip vehicle/VIN specific? (One would think so, but this is Jeep, so it has to be asked.)@keeperman13

Apparently, thieves can ping the FOB and relay the data necessary to start a vehicle that uses our technology. My wife bought a little stainless steel container that we put all our FOBs in.My wife kept the key to her Corvette in a closet near the garage door. It's the book in the glovebox that perhaps 1 in 50 owners bothers to read. What is this 'owners manual' thingy you are talking about???
I give these Faraday bags as Christmas gifts ever year. To a person, they're all grateful for and impressed by the simple and effective protection that the bags provide.Apparently, thieves can ping the FOB and relay the data necessary to start a vehicle that uses our technology.
