3. FCP Euro (where I bought my new Odyssey battery) has an outstanding return/warranty policy. For folks like me who live close by, this is a phenomenal outfit and I will definitely buy batteries there again. (Price was also outstanding.) They do ship, but claiming warranty on a battery that was shipped seems like a big hassle. I certainly wouldn't want to mail back a 50lb battery, and it's one reason I never buy batteries on the internet.
I’m currently dealing with a dying Odyssey 94R battery that I purchased from FCP Euro in March of this year. I’ve had my Noco 5 on for a few weeks and doesn’t seem to have helped, but after reading through this I may need to try and get a better/bigger charger.

I wanted to mention that FCP Euro’s Lifetime Replacement Guarantee isn’t as good as it seems. I called today inquiring about a replacement battery. Their guarantee is pretty much hassle free. The catch however is that you have to order an exact replacement part(in my case another 94R-850 battery) and once they receive the “defective” part, they issue you STORE credit for the replacement you ordered. Their website just says ‘credit’ so it is misleading. So keep this in mind when ordering from them because of their ‘warranty’ policy. I don’t own a European car so their store credit does me no good. To me, this isn’t a warranty.

I’m going to see if I can warranty the battery directly through Odyssey.

@spurly

I mentioned this in a post I made in in regard to Odyssey.. I think you can relate to what I wrote here. And yes, an Odyssey battery a very good offering but... https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/??-main-battery-replacement-talk-jl-jt-?.100534/post-2300851

Thanks. I didn’t realize their customer service was subpar at best. All I heard was how good the batteries are. Since I don’t have a charger big enough, I’m wondering if I can put the Odyssey battery in my truck when we take our Christmas road trip. A 2 hour drive in the truck might do it some good.

If that doesn’t work and if Odyssey won’t warranty it, then my options are either to buy a new battery (Odyssey or not) and install the Noco Genius2D battery maintainer on the Jeep or invest in the Genesis dual battery system which I don’t really care to spend the money on.

That’s disappointing. Can’t you use the credit to just get another battery, though?

I had to warranty a Northstar that I purchased from Batteries Plus. Nortstar is made by Enersys, the same company that makes Odyssey.

The process was not difficult, but the store had no stock so I either had to be without my Jeep for weeks while they waited for stock (this was during pandemic with all the supply chain issues), or buy another battery. I decided on the latter and got the Odyssey from FCP Euro (local to me)
so now I also have a new Northstar sitting in my garage.

After the Northstar failed I got in touch with Enersys and they were extremely helpful and easy to deal with. Sounds like @Rhinebeck01 had the opposite experience, though. Maybe it’s luck of the draw who answers the call.

What I can tell you with 100% certainty is that your Noco-5 contributed to your failure.

I hadn’t thought about just buying a second battery with the credit. My truck could use a new battery anyways.

I borrowed a 15amp AGM smart charger from a neighbor this morning. I pulled the battery out of the Jeep and I’ll leave it on the charger for the weekend and see what happens.

If I get a new battery or the charger revives the current battery, would the Noco Genius2D tender work to keep the Odyssey at its peak? Since the Jeep is not a daily driver I plan on leaving a tender hooked up 24/7 going forward.

No!

Watch the YouTube video that I linked from Enersys.

I have their (now discontinued) 20a, six stage charger/maintainer. After nearly two years of regular (bi-weekly) use my Odyssey 94R is still going strong.

If you are going to stick with high quality AGM batteries, I strongly recommend investing in a good charger. Minimally, that means a Noco-10. Personally, I’d go bigger than that.

I’m confused, because towards the end of her video she said trickle chargers with a float voltage of 13.5-13.8 will work to maintain a fully charged battery. So once my battery is charged, plugging it into the tricke charger/maintainer would work, no?

Yes, once it is fully charged. But how will you do that without a charger? Good chargers will also maintain, so no need to buy a maintainer - just invest in a good charger that does both. The key is to get one that puts out enough amps to satisfy your Odyssey’s needs. The Noco-5 falls short. Buying an even smaller 2a Noco doesn’t make sense.

For the last couple of days I’ve been running a repair charge cycle on my Odyssey battery and it seems to be recovering, although slowly. Before I started my battery’s resting voltage was 12.63. After the first repair cycle resting voltage was 12.75. Ran another repair cycle last night and resting voltage seems to be 12.8 as of this morning. Not 100% full charge according to Odyssey’s website but better than the 12.63 we started with.
