This is a better option, maybe after a 400 or 500A in-line welding fuse. I wish Warn posted the ratings for that solenoid but I know most buying it don't really care, whatever worthless youtuber told them to buy it and that's all they need.
Those are fantastic switches. I'm a big Blue Sea fan. Also Flaming River brand is not to be looked over as another viable option.

I’m using a warn 12s Platinum , which has factory switch directly installed in head unit of winch ,
zero issues. No worries!!

You are misunderstanding the pupouse of a fuse or switch. It's to protect the wire from burning up not the device.

Added the Warn solenoid switch. Winch only receives powered once I turn on my axillary switch I have hooked to it. Simple and a great piece of mind.

Dont these winches designed to plug directly to the battery have a factory fuse already? Why bother with a switch?

my SB gen3 clearly stated how to connect the winch and to not mess with the factory wiring.

Judging by the gazillion of mall crawlers with winches going around and no elec. Fires. I think we are fine.

What about the fuse inside the control box? I know mine has one. It also has a post for accesories such as an air compressor, and that post has a breaker and everything.

It is fineee.

I understand , you are not the resident expert in DC electricity-warn winches with built in switches , etc , so- install solenoid and fuses if you must , but completely unnecessary!!

In the event the power cable grounds out due to abrasion or an impact current will flow from the battery thru the cable to where it's ground.

Having a fuse/switch at the winch does nothing to cut the flow of current.

Having the fuse/switch as close to the battery as possible allows it to be isolated and stop the flow of current.

Is the risk of this happening low? Yes. So are a lot of things many of us prepare for and take steps to mitigate.

So I went with a solenoid wired to my AUX switches. Custom bracket for the mounting….came out sweet with no additional drilling….used existing bolts and treaded holes.

What about just running a quick disconnect and leaving unplugged when not in use? Something like this

Because Jeep gave us these aux switches and we want to use them. I had JK Champion winch connected with the quick disconnect that came with it and the plug kind of disintegrated. I took the longer cables, drilled holes in them and connected the winch directly to the battery with no issues.

I put mine here and seems sturdy enough just added some washers to secure it on the flexible rubber/plastic. I did have to use one of the extra black wires that came with it and just wrapped it with red tape.

Marine power disconnect rated for 400 amps.. Warn evo 8000 winch. .It allows peace of mind about power isolation until I need the winch or get a contacter failure. I leave the hood unlatched when I use the winch and just have to raise it to do a disconnect.
