Hi all
Done a search but can’t find conclusive as to if you can officially or successfully use a (for example) ctek cigarette style plug in battery conditioner that works by pluggoing into the socket in the boot area?

My Jaguar also has 2 batteries but I can plug the ctek into the boot cigarette socket (as per the jag install instructions) and the battery conditioner does its job conditioning both. Simple.

ps my preference is to charge from the boot if possible instead of via clips attached direct to battery under bonnet/hood.

many thanks in advance.

Lots of tender chargers have adapters that allow charging thru the lighter plug in you just have to be mindful of the amp rating going thru the plug as you can pop a fuse if to much current flows, not sure what the rating is for the plug

Thanks. That’s what I’m looking to find out. If anyone knows which battery conditioner is tried, tested or approved.

Hi all
I’m about to bite the bullet and buy battery conditioner/tender to trickle through rear 12 cigarette socket however have seen mixed info as to whether this socket is constantly live without ignition or not.

Can anyone confirm if the rear 12v cigarette socket is constantly live?
My car is 2020 wrangler Rubicon 2.0 ltr (UK version).

Thanks

It is unswitched, at least in the US-spec JL. I just checked.
Hi Heimkehr
Apologies for my ignorance.
By ‘unswitched’ do you mean:
It is constantly live?
Or
It requires key in ignition to be live?

Thanks for your help

The socket in the cargo area is always hot (live).

That’s great. It’s just that I read somewhere that the handbook was wrong and that fuses need to be changed and that the fuses the handbook states are incorrect? ‍♂
Nothing seems straight forward.

if it’s IS live and it’s connected directly to the battery then there should be no issue in using something like a CTEk trickle charger/battery conditioner?

You can switch the fuse to make it ignition-controlled. I learned that from reading here, but I decided to install a kill switch in the boot to control it. There are owners who use the CTEK to charge from the rear cargo socket.

Thanks.
So as it is (stock), it is live and I can just plug a ctek into it without changing any fuses?

Also, any recommendations for the CTEK? Looking at CTEK MXS 5. Seems to be able to do the job from my limited understanding.

Thanks

Thanks, however I am specifically looking to charge through the boot/cargo/trunk area.

I have a spare Jaguar branded CTEK charger (pictured below) which is for the cigarette lighter socket. I want to use this or similar from the 12v socket in boot if I can.

do the specs on this jag charger look compatible?

Can both batteries be charged at the same time? I remember reading that it's better to charge separately but I'm not sure

As it is, it's live if you have the subwoofer... there's no need to change any fuses to accomplish your goal of charging from the boot.

The MXS 5.0 is identical to the CTEK model (56-158) I keep in a different vehicle, I but I had to get the 56-263 cigarette plug. I use a NOCO and Schumacher for my JL.
