I really like my Rugged Ridge Arcus; and if you read my write-up on my install, the only thing about the 12.5K badlands is that you have to drill a hole in the controller cover so the wires exit the side instead of the back. It keeps the winch down out of the way and the winch is on a mounting plate so that the force of the winch is actually transmitted to the frame directly, instead of through the bumper.

I have LOD destoryer bumper with Badlands on it. Intall of each was was easy and they work well together.

one thing to decide first if you want the winch mounted inside the umper or on top. On top os much easier to work with but it sits higher and is exposed.

i installed mine while the bumper was fully installed. My buddy has a quadratec bumper where the winch sits down in the bumper. Hes going to have to remove it to install it, then reinstall the bumper with the winch on it. Kind of a pain and will take two people at least. I did mine by myself.

Anyone have a recommendation for a bumper that will work well with a badlands apex? Just got my 24 Willys and starting my build.
I have the Badland Apex on my Rubicon I installed the Extreme HD steel bumper I got from Extreme Terrain Jeep it's a little cramped up at the grill ( the wires are crammed but no problems)

I went with the Warn Elite full width bumper. Requires some clearancing, but would even with the Zeon winch. Runs/looks great.

I’m running the mp concepts aluminum bumper. With the badlands winch I only saw 1/4 drop and gained about 30lb over stock plastic bumper. It came with the winch plate and skid plate.

  • Any spacers required to install that plate?
  • Is the clutch handle fully functional (i.e. turn 180 deg.) without cutting/modification?
I had to trim the clutch handle - with spacers moving the winch up a bit it would have been better - the biggest thing was the bar is so close to the winch opening. Some other guys use a larger bar that doesn't bolt down so close to the winch.
Spacers under winch, between winch and plate might have been better but i didn't use any spacers either between plate or for bumper mounting - not until I got my snow plow and then needed to move the bumper forward a bit because the plow bar brackets would have smacked the bottom of the bumper.

On closer examination I saw your notch in the clutch handle.

Thanks for the additional details!
