We did the 3 badge trails, plus others, at Windrock over Labor Day weekend
I am honestly super happy with my relatively lightly modified JLUR, so even though I got this email the badges are just the bonus

I did Panther Rock yesterday and will run Trail 26 next weekend. They can join my Colorado badges on the backorder list. But I did them and have the memories!

Go up 22 to 26, I think that’s the way it’s meant to be run. I imagine it being kind of boring going down 26/22.

This way will make an otherwise basic blue have some rather interesting spots

Shockingly the Jeep Jamboree guides handed this to me yesterday at the end of three days on the trail. No need to wait for it!

Three guides and six Jeeps. Incredible run.
I ran it about a week before you and mine is "Backordered". This is the peak season for badge trails. With the big jamborees with hundreds of jeeps that have been through the Rubicon in the past month or so, the badges have been depleted.

John, can I trouble you to do a nice clean scan of that badge? I want to get some embroidery patches made and attach them to a black baseball hat. I want to give one to my old friend that was my shotgun rider on all the badge trails. We set a goal of running the Rubicon as a bucket list activity, so we could do things together before we can't any longer.

What'd you think of Backway to Crown King? Did you get to spend some time at the top?

We were there in the spring of this year and stayed 2 nights in the cabins. We flat towed my JLUR to AZ then drove the tow rig and jeep up the nice road the night before we ran the trail. Once we ran the trail, we had a few cold ones, at the bar on top, with some guys we met on the trail in a jeep since the cabin was a short walk away. The cabins are a bit primitive, but better than camping. Food service availability is sketchy.

Schnebly was a zoo getting to the trail head. Sedona has changed a lot since I was last there. Not for the better. The main part of the trail where it goes over the mountain was closed due to a landslide up there. Has that opened up? I'd do it again in the off-tourist season, if I could run the whole trail.

Table Mesa needs to come off the BOH list or go across the highway to the east.

Backway to Crown King… I ran it from the South. Funtreks book was confusing. I turned off early and was in a wash that eventually turned into a jeep trap. BOH app saved me so I could get to the CK rock trailhead. I give it a 5 (my scale below) since it was dry. Very unique trail. I was the only one on it but you can tell it gets busy. Lots of memorials, bullet holes, and tecate cans. First time seeing wild burros and roadrunners. I was in a hurry to get to Vegas for Rocky Gap so I didn’t hang around up top. Very remote once you‘re there! I should have stopped at the saloon on the north side.

Schnebly (2) was open and I ran it from Flagstaff and early to beat the rush. It’s drop dead gorgeous. Completely different scenery, but reminded me of how Black Bear Pass drops down into Telluride.

Yeah, Table Mesa Road (1) needs to come off along with Peter’s Mill Road and some others.

Rocky Gap Road (6) was my favorite and worth getting beat up on Arizona’s shitty paved roads. Beautiful scenery and plenty of obstacles in the wash. There were some tight off camber spots too. I would like to run this one again with friends.

Here’s my rating system I came up with while running four BOH trails in three days of varying difficulty. Completely subjective and based on the wheeler, rig, and conditions. YMMV.

1 - 2H & don’t air down
2 - 2H & air down
3 - 4H
4 - 4L
5 - Moderate obstacles
6 - Bigger obstacles, off camber, steeper sections - will need a spotter or self spot
7 - Lockers or winch needed - bring a human friend
8 - Damage or getting stuck likely - bring another Jeep

Let me know if you want to run Rocky Gap again. I ran it last year when I was all stock and took most of the bypasses. Now, I'm on 37s w/3.5 lift, skids, etc. and would like to play in the wash more.

If you liked the wash on RG, you'd like Holcomb Creek and John Bull.

It's somewhere in the Jeep, so I've created a reminder to take a good picture of it when we get back to Colorado this weekend.

This is the best picture that I was able to get. Maybe I'll be able to get something better in natural light.

If you have a flatbed scanner, that would work too.

My Rubicon Trail badge moved to "processing" stage today.

Hopefully this is more usable:
