Exactly a year and 13 days ago, I replaced both batteries. Yesterday, the service start/stop warning appeared and disappeared. It reappeared today and shortly thereafter the check engine light came on and it started running rough.

Checked the code and it was "permanent" and was P0171 (Left engine bank running lean). I pulled both batteries and took them to be tested. The main was fine, but the aux immediately failed the test.

Both were Diehard Platinum AGMs bought from Advance Auto Parts. I was (of course) 14 days out of warranty on the Aux so I had to buy a new one. One thing to note is AAP has a 1 year warranty extension for $13 which I added to the new Aux battery. As far as I know, AAP has the only battery with a 1 year warranty and the ability to add a second year.

After reinstalling both batteries, everything is back to normal and the P0171 code cleared itself (checked with my MX+ OBD scanner).

I have to say if 1 year is going to be the norm going forward, I will be looking into a Genesis system...

You should just remove the Aux battery and all of the wiring including the PCR. I removed mine 6 months ago and never looked back. The Jeep now runs on one battery like it should have from the factory. I use an auto/stop/start to disable the ESS button so it never comes on. As far as a backup I just carry a Noco power pack. Only took a few hours to remove.

Any directions on how to do it?

Man that is frustrating. Does Walmart/ever start offer a battery in the correct size? I have been using them for batteries for about 5 years now. Cheap and 3 yr replacement warranty. I lost 1 battery out of 5 so far and they gave me a new one with no hassle. I don't know if they offer AGM batteries though.

The problem is the auxiliary battery is really a motorcycle/powersports battery and no one offers any type of decent warranty on them.

This 2 year warranty is the longest I have seen.

I just looked and the warranty is only 3 months on the everstart batteries.

What about this guy? 36 month full replacement.

Yep; that would work. I did a pretty through search when I bought the AGMs from AAP and it was the longest warranty I could find. I seem to recall that AZ had a 90 day warranty back then which is why I went with AAP. I am hoping just had a bad battery since the OEM lasted nearly 3 years.

With that said, when it failed this time, it acted in a way that it never has before. I never had a check engine light or have the engine misfire when the OEM batteries failed.

I got my genesis system a couple Months backs I’m one lucky guy currently though. I bought it ahead of the game as my main and aux batteries are four and a half years old and counting. I just need to save a little more and order the odyssey battery set and then I’ll install the kit. ! Glad it was just the aux battery you had to swap out again though and that it’s running good again

Does it eliminate the start/stop system or does that part remain intact, but uses the second Group 25 battery instead of the Group 14?

I installed the Genesis system almost 2 years ago and got the full river batteries at the same time. So far it’s been great. I think you will be happy with its basically a remove and replace.

@CarbonSteel

I used this link 5k miles ago and I have no issues. I even forget to disable ESS once in a while and it hasn't been an issue.

Good luck!
