A healthy 12V automotive battery should have a resting voltage no lower than 12.3V

This statement is not correct for AGMs. A fully charged AGM showing a 12.3 resting voltage may start a Jeep, but it is on it's way out. It likely has trouble holding that charge. After a few more days resting, it is probably at measurably less voltage.

You'll want to flesh that out a bit more. What target voltage figure are you proposing?

By way of example, the original Yuasa AGM in my 2015 motorcycle continues to reliably crank the engine, with resting voltage trends that hover at or just above 12.3V during the riding season (i.e., absent the tender that I use during seasonal winter storage.)

You need a new main battery. Don't cheap out, and make sure you put in an H-7.

I went to Costco and put in a new H7. Started getting worried because the “charging” message was still showing. After 15 minutes of driving, the ESS kicked in and everything was fine. Thank you all so much!!!

Hi, I deleted my auxiliary battery from my 2018 jl rubicon. I electrical taped the positive auxiliary line, & connected the negative auxiliary line, to the new negative side on main battery. The new battery replacement I put is an optima yellow top H7. I upgrade to a bigger one.
No dash lights popping up, But when I check on my voltage on my dash, it reads 12.3 & goes up & down on voltage. & has me a bit worried. Is this normal on the bigger battery?

With the engine running the voltage on the dash will show the output of your alternator. It varies based on what is asked of the alternator by the electrical system including charging your battery. With the engine off, it will give an imprecise measurement of your battery voltage. If your battery has been fully charged with a reputable charger, testing the battery itself with a multimeter and seeing 12.3 volts would be an issue.

Oh okay thank you terry I should recheck my battery & alternator.
cause when Im driving around it shows 12.8 & when I start breaking coming to a stop, it shoots back up to 14.5 & back to 12.8 when stopped.

The voltage varying that much as you describe seems unusual to me but I’m not an expert, Hopefully others like @THAW have some input.

@Dan18jl

Neither 12.8V nor 14.5V alone while driving is cause for concern, and it's normal for voltage to increase by a volt or so while coasting (or decrease similarly while turning the steering wheel sharply at low speed). But, your voltage swing does seem rather large.

I really don't have any advice other than, if you're concerned about the battery, do the standard multimeter voltage check and/or a load test. Though I would think your JL mostly sitting at 12.8V while underway is an indication the JL sees the battery as healthy and charged.
