AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKING

Hopefully, someone has figured a way to resolve this pain in the azz problem as I see it. My 2025 Wrangler Willys can handle (unlocking) but not (locking). When I get close to the door, the fob gets recognized and I can get in cause the door unlocks.

My 2020 GMC Sierra was able to do that also.....................but when I walked away from the Sierra, it recognized I was now out of range and it automatically locked the doors. I would like for my new Jeep to (lock itself) when I walk away instead of me needing to push the door button to get it done.

I cannot understand why they would set it up to automatically do unlock but not include lock as well.

Any solutions???????

One button is a pain in the ass? You even have a choice of button, door handle or remote ffs.

I'm a door or tailgate button guy, never grab my fob. Just press the door button after exit or for some reason if I'm head toward the rear, I press that tailgate button.

I don't think it does it when you get close, it does it when you put your hand on the handle as that is where the sensor is located. Unless they changed things on the 25s. And I think the auto lock is a setting after so many seconds of being away. Not sure if Jeep does this, I never searched for it.

Auto locking based on weak radio signal, such as walking away, has corner case issues. If you were ever in the condition with very low FOB battery voltage, this would most likely become problematic. The door may lock as soon as you closed it even though you may only be going to the back of the vehicle to open the tailgate.

Sure, software timers could be employed in the body controller, but then this would need to be calibrated. Your sweet-spot preference at a locking delay may not be someone else's. This may likely tend to piss-off more people than using an explicit on-demand locking signal.

Also, there may very well be reasons why someone may not want to lock the doors with the FOB not present. Packing for a trip is an example.

Recall, the automotive engineers are never trying to make just 'you' happy, their goal is to provide for the greatest practicality for the largest sales potential. Typically, they'll remain as neutral as possible for general overall behaviors.

Because then they’d have to spend a buck or two on a pinch sensor. Remember power windows weren’t even standard until 2024.

Personally the lack of auto-lock doesn’t bother me, but there’s no reason not to have it. Every other automaker does it perfectly well so it cannot be hard.

ALL of our 2018+ JLs auto-lock after the key fob is far enough away from the proximity sensors for a certain period of time. I know this from personal experience; I just cannot tell you what the time hack is.

Also, regarding the previous poster’s concern about being auto-locked out of your vehicle in a hostile environment - it does not matter for a few reasons. First, if you leave the key fob in the vehicle and the fob is transmitting, it will not lock, even if you try to lock it. Second, if your key fob battery is dead and you leave it in the vehicle and get locked out, you’re an idiot and deserve to be locked out. Third, you can always turn off auto-lock in your Uconnect system. Fourth, if you take the fob with you and it auto-locks, and for some reason proximity doesn’t work, nor does any amount of button-pushing, you have a unique, genius thing hidden in your key fob - THE KEY.

Interesting- my 21 doesn’t auto lock, for which I am thankful when loading/ unloading the back seat. But if it did I would have to touch the driver’s handle to unlock every trip . Yours does, so it’s a setting, don’t want so never looked.

You can absolutely lock the fob inside your Jeep. Third time is the charm. If you try to lock it with the proximity button, the logic must say if you are doing this 3 times, then you must really want to lock the keys inside.

Unfortunately, that's a feature found in GM vehicles that is not available on Jeep products of any model. I miss it too.

There are craploads of vehicles that lack it. Maybe some people think Wranglers should strive to be more luxurious?

Weird, I've left my Wranglers (1st and 2nd) unlocked in my garage or driveway without them ever unexpectedly locking themselves. That could be pretty maddening, especially when doing things like loading or unloading.
