@Sean L

Yup, sure.......... or could it be that this 70 year old guy just likes to run his mouth about products he has installed and thinks are absolutely terrific.

I have over 4,000 such forum posts. Me ranting about the Taser JL, Bestop Sunrider for hard top JL, Bestop Floor Liners, Gibson Leatherworks holsters, SmartStopStart, Weather Tech Floor Liners, Pedal Commander, Seat Belt Clips, Rigid Lites, Roadmaster Diodes , etc, etc..

:LOL:
I get ya. lol

When I had my ESS on, at first I was bothered by it, but then got used it it and it wasn't really an issue.

But either way, I don't want it on anyway, so i have the TazerJL Lite from Z Automotive and with it connected, i just turn off the ESS so i never have to worry about it. Any potential problems now fixed.

@Rhinebeck01: Curious, do you have both the Smart Stop Start System and the Tazer JL installed?
Yes, for months now, I have been running both the Tazer JL Mini and the SmartStopStart. I was the first to do this and subsequently, there are two other forum member's here that have started doing so also. @WranglerMan and also @OldGuyNewJeep .

Unfortunately, the Taser JL does not yet, I emphasize the word yet, handle ESS as well as the SmartStopStart unit. The SSS works flawlessly but the Tazer JL will intermittently hiccup and not turn off ESS as it is supposed to.

Good info, thanks.
@nvabill

For the record... with the set-up I mentioned, the Tazer JL Mini stays married and my JL benefits from all the non-live features/settings. The Tazer JL Mini hardware is not left installed. The SmartStopStart unit is installed at the gateway.

IF... if your Tazer JL or Tazer JL Mini is running firmware 11.0.6 or older you can actually chain connect the Tazer hardware and the SmartStopStart unit together. Not recommended but doable..

I'm sort of curious as to how many people that disable start/stop live way out in the country where the ESS wouldn't have much benefit vs living in a city with a lot of signalized intersections where the ESS would have a benefit.

One shouldn't have to change the way one drives in order to accommodate this stupid system. Gotta get that Smart Stop Start installed ASAP!
No kidding. It's probably THE stupidest thing I've ever experienced on any vehicle. I think some love their jeep so much they can explain anything away on it. lol I got the tazer and it is so nice not to have to dick with it or even think about it OR ADJUST YOUR DRIVING STYLE. I took it off recently and had to dick with the ESSS (first S is for stupid) again. I couldnt get the tazer back in fast enough.

If it were a choice between big tires or tazer, I'd go tazer. ;)

Small burb here. And I do see a benefit with ESSS in cities. Still stupid though, the button should work in reverse.

I get that. Having a memory setting would make sense. I personally won't spend the money on the Smart Start Stop but thats mainly because I use the ESS in town. I press the button to disable for highway construction creeping forward type traffic though... not any benefit there.

Interesting about the hiccup. I had that happen once and wondered if something was wrong with the unit or I hit the button by mistake. After that it worked as designed again. Funny you bought both items to rid yourself of ESS....you must hate it worse than anyone. lol

@twisty

Tazer JL Mini and regular Tazer JL with firmware 11.0.8 works in regard to ESS disable with memory of last state but as you noticed it still hiccups occasionally. I expect that Joe will fix the hiccups related to ESS disable in his next firmware release for the Tazer.

No, don't hate ESS..... Actually, at times I like it. I just don't want it dictating to me or having it jump though hurdles to keep it from taking over so to speak.

Also, afraid ESS will get me killed.... I have an aggressive driving style and any delay in my JL moving.... when I pull out into fast moving traffic... may throw off my timing so to speak and have me pulling out in front of some high speed driver.

Though I'm 70, I am really into tech so to speak.. Tazer was not doing the ESS thing to my liking so I opted to try a SmartStopStart unit. Once I tried it, well, I was hooked on it. I know I can always sell the SSS or the Tazer easily for close to what I paid for them, so why not enjoy the benefits of having them.

.....And again, I enjoy techie stuff like Tazer JL, SmartStopStart, Pedal Commander and in a couple of weeks I will even have Amazon Echo Auto installed in my JL.

Suit yourself but he knows his stuff, I'm a motorhead myself so I pay attention.
Knew his stuff back in the 80s and 90s sure. I don't think he's taken the advancement in technology into account though.

He's talking fuel consumption not wear and tear.
And the 3.6 is designed to work in this manner. They didn't just throw this on the 3.6 from that JK its an improved design.

I get it If I took my old Dakota and just added some sort of ESS funcionality that weak starter would explode... these are new engines, designed to function in hybrid and start/stop applications.
