I realize that for true audiophiles, the premium Alpine setup in the JL may not be what you would consider "premium", but so far I'm digging it over the Beats radio I had before. My question is for those of you who have kept the Alpine unit, what do you have your treble/midrange/bass equalizer settings on to get what you think is the best sound? Or, do you subscribe to the notion that you should keep the equalizer flatline to better preserve the sound of the music the way it was originally recorded? I know this is subjective, just looking for opinions.

I have my Spotify equalizer set, so I keep the jeep's pretty flat. I think it really depends the type of music though. I find myself adjusting the bass setting up and down occasionally depending on genre.

I downloaded the JetAudio App. on my iPhone. It has a killer equalizer on it and it plays much louder. Sounds twice as good than playing it through iTunes.

I'll have to check that out. I've been listening to local HD radio and XM, but I'll be using the phone for music on road trips once the XM subscription expires.

I bump the treble one notch and the bass one notch. I leave the mids flat.

But, frankly, I don't listen to the radio much. My favorite music comes from the diesel engine.

It's all subjective, of course. But I like a flat, midrange sound, so I keep my equalizers flat 90% of the time. I'll bump the bass up to 2 - 4 when I'm in the mood for some good rumble. I listen to SiriusXM and downloaded music through Apple Music with Android Auto.

I currently have a 2 door with the Alpine system, but the 4 door had the better sub resonance, so the bass equalizer doesn't have to go as high in the JLU vs the JL.

If you like clean midrange, I suggest taking off the grills from the soundbar, removing the foam next to the high range driver, and stuffing it into the open bass ports. That covers up the gross high-range bass from the soundbar, and gives me a more noticeable midrange stereo effect.

Have a 2-door with the Alpine "premium" stereo and it's.. alright. Consider myself an aging basshead and an audiophile without the wallet to back up my opinion ?

Imo, this system's biggest problem is that it desperately needs a separate gain setting for the subwoofer. Love my bass, but it's overbearing at any volume compared to the rest of the speakers.

Usually try to keep close to a 0 flat setting, preferring to lower EQ frequencies versus boosting the others. But to my ears, this system really starts to sound like absolute poop once you start moving the EQ levels too far away from each other. I'm still trying to find a happy medium, but so far I keep going back to -2 bass, -1 mid and 0 treble (sometimes lowering the bass to -3 to try toning down the overbearing sub, and occasionally doing -1 bass, 0 mid and +1 treble).

My last stereo was a $1k Alpine INE-S920HD in-dash nav with parametric EQ and time alignment with just my crappy stock non-premium speakers (4-door, front tweeters, no extra amps and no sub) and while missing the same punchy bass, it just sounded a lot better imo.

I use the typical stock radio smiley face eq settings. That's about all you can do with a stock setup to sound somewhat decent.

A true audiophile will use more than the three band EQ that the OEM Alpine has. I'm in the process of putting together a system for a buddy that will have a DSP with 10 channels of EQ/crossover/TA and phase. Each speaker will get it's own power and DSP channel so I will have all of the options I need to make it sound good. The owner appreciates a great sound so she is willing to pay the $4k for equipment and the extra cost for the install and tune from me. Tuning will be done with an oscilloscope, and an RTA.

I removed the Alpine Sub in the back to regain some side space. I turned down the base as far as it will go, turned up the mids and highs by two notches and set the volume to increase by speed...

Normally NONE of that matters because I roll down the windows and pop the top back anyhow. ;)

I enjoy the fact that I can hear the outside (birds, crickets, screems of my passengers, etc.) while driving far more than any song on the radio, etc.
