So, yesterday I was emailing with a dealer and he is refusing to give me a price for the Jeep I built on Jeep.com. Keeps asking me to come in to talk about it and says his boss will lose money on anything below MSRP. Finally got him to say he would sell it for their cost but he won’t tell me what that is unless I come in to the dealership.
When I pressed him to just give me a price for the Jeep I built, he says I need to come in and build it on his computer because Jeep website doesn’t price them correctly. For example he said my build shows the engine block heater as included (which it should since I selected the cold weather group) but he is trying to tell me it shouldn’t be included and is a $95 up charge option in the order system.
So, how fast should I run from this guy? Trying to give him a chance as he contacted me early on when they first got Jeeps in but jeez....seems fishy to me.

My wrangler should arrive at the dealership in about 30 days. Is there a way to order mopar parts now and have the dealership install when it arrives?

To use a quote from Monty Python and the Holy Grail . . . "Run away! Run away!"

Seriously, I can get him saying the customer site doesn't properly price/option out everything (we know this) but that shouldn't stop him from taking a build sheet you provide to him and answering the question - what's YOUR price for a Jeep configured like this? I mean, it's kind of in his job description, right - configure vehicles with desired options and quote a price? He's just playing the age old game of getting the prospective customer within the 4 walls of the dealership so he can play the game on home turf. If he's not willing to do something that simple how much more complicated is he going to make other things once you are there? Your call but that's a red light for me. There's too many other dealers.

@JLWF Dealer Guy right now the mojito shows tan leather as the only interior option. If that ends up being the case, what are the chances my dealer would order the tan and swap them out with another rubi on the lot with black for me?

And this goes right in-line with why I will most likely be making my best deal with an out-of-state dealer....as of to date: No StL dealers are even remotely close to winning my purchase. It is 2018 J-hawk, we should be able to get 90% of our shopping/quoting/deal making done via phone/email/SMS.

1 in 292 million. Well, that's the odds of winning the Powerball. I'd guess the odds of getting a dealer to do as you suggest are less than that.

I know. It is so frustrating. I have flat out asked him 4 times to give me the price and he just won’t do it. Makes no sense.

They actually can’t. It’s against the law for them to “swap” items between new vehicles for sale. Factory installed items (like seats) have to match the inventory of items listed on the window sticker. At least that’s what my salesman told me and he hasn’t given me any reason to doubt him yet. He’s even listened to me and repsponded accordingly when I asked questions based on things learned in this forum. The LSD requirement on Sport S builds w/ manual, for example, that led us to submitting a new order to meet the requirements. Original order: 11/16, Sport S, manual, soft top, safety and tech. Went C on 12/26. Jeep Chat and @JeepCare on Twitter confirmed on 1/25 that order would be delayed and that the earliest the build would be SCHEDULED was mid-February.

Theres a better chance to find a forum member willing to trade with you. Or buy some covers that you'll like. Same odds

One last question. If I bought a soft top now can I swap it for the sky one touch top when it comes out this summer?
Not a chance. If they even offer it aftermarket it would probably be $15000 come unpainted and be 15 hours to install it.

0% just do the Katzkin aftermarket if you want a different color.

I am sure this has been asked a thousand times but I could not find the answers in the forum:

Now that people have received their JLs...
  1. What is average order cycle time from order to receiving?
  2. What is the quickest order processed?
  3. What types of things tend to slow the order cycle? (Colors or options)

  1. What was the traditional order cycle for the JK models?

The JK was about 6 weeks routinely. I think now that production up moving along, we should see similar times. No idea on what might hold things up. It’s been all over the board.
