Looking at buying a tazer mini, any issues or gotcha I need to look for/worried about?
How would updates work on the tazer as well?

Thanks for any insights...never had/used one before.

Thanks!

1. Note that the anti-theft features are rather worthless, as it takes but a few seconds to unplug it. The alarm on hood option feature is useful, however.
2. We have seen these cause intermittent can communication issues, i.e. entire dash lights up with warning lamps randomly. Very rare, but if you get weird shit unplug it before worrying about it.
3. You DO NOT need to un marry it before dealer visits. It does not effect our ability to diagnose or repair the vehicle.

Unless you need the always plugged in required features it's recommended to unplug it and plug the SGW back in after you're done performing adjustments. Tire sizes, proxy changes, etc do not require it to always be plugged in.

For updates are they tied to original owner or as long as you have the device you can get updates?

I bought a new one for my 25 Sahara, and it works great. I would recommend it strongly to any Wrangler owner. I would recommend you get the extension cable kit; it's a knuckle-scraping project to get the plugs in and out of the SGW if you have big hands and/or are a little mobility challenged precluding getting on your back with your head against the brake pedal.

I can't speak to the question of buying a used one, though. It ABSOLUTELY has to be un-married from the previous vehicle; if not you will need to (somehow....see below) get a dialogue going with Z Automotive and purchase some sort of an unlock code. Myself, I'm not a big fan of purchasing used magic "black box" equipment and then connecting it to a $80,000 vehicle. Buyer beware.

An interesting point: Z Automotive shields themselves from conventional inquiries and contacts very, very well. There is no phone number for customer access, and I was able to find no email address. You can play games reaching them through "messaging" them on facebook, or fill out a form on the website. It took me about a week bouncing back and forth trying to get a really simple but not-specifically-covered-in the manual question answered. It does raise my eyebrows a little thinking that if you DID have a big problem, maybe where there was some damage, opening up a meaningful dialogue might be challenging. They could pick and choose if they wanted to reply.

As for updates, you can read the firmware version on your dash in normal use; then just watch the web site. When the version changes, pull it out, take it in the house, connect to your PC using the downloadable software, and update it from the new firmware file you download. I'm told by the manufacturer to un-marry it EVERY time it's removed, regardless if even it is going right back in. I'm told that the settings are preserved, but have not experimented. I'm not sure settings would survive a firmware update.
