After just reading the post where flick2614 had his front left wheel leave the chat (remember the old song - "you picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel") I got to thinking, which is always dangerous, should I apply antiseize to the lugnuts? I know oil is a nono, but here in the North East, everything likes to rust itself together. What is the consensus?

No anti seize on lug nut threads. The torque spec is dry spec. Anti seize will lead to increased torque applied to the stud beyond spec. I do apply a small amount of anti seize to the wheel hub and rotor between the studs to keep the wheels from corroding to the hub/brake rotors.

I’m not an expert but I’ve been taught nothing on them at all. No Loctite, lubricant, or antiseize on the wheel studs, lug nuts, face of the rotor, or mounting surface of the wheel. I use a brass brush to clean the wheel studs then wipe down the threads with a paper towel soaked in rubbing alcohol. Wipe out the internal threads of the lug nuts with a paper towel soaked in rubbing alcohol. If someone else installed the wheels. I remove them, clean all surfaces, reinstall and check with a torque wrench. Probably not necessary but that’s what I do.

Wheel spacers, which I don’t recommend over buying the correct wheels…follow the manufacturers instructions.

On wheel spacers yes, which I don’t support but hey….. wheels without spacers no loctite. Just check your wheés regularly with a torque wrench.

when it comes to wheel spacers I have used them for many years and there are only two I recommend Spidertrax and BORA both usa made and quality....Spidertrax recommends and includes red locktite when you buy them but also....BORA on the otherhand does not recommend locktite when using their spacers...when installed properly and per their instructions I don't worry one iota about them.

Got steel rim or mag rim ?
If you have steel rim, ya put some where the rim contact the wheel hub.
In my life I got more issue with rusted rim to wheel hub than rusted nuts on their stud

I always put a little dab on. Not dripping. From my days of living in PA, VA, MD, NJ, WI, and MN where rust is a thing. Now in the PNW I still do it because I am old and that is how I am.

This.
I torque them when I rotate them and re-torque them after 200 miles or so for peace of mind...
Generally, they are ready for rotation again long before they can start to corrode...

Jeff, I have only used Synergy 2” wheel spacers on two Jeeps. They too are made in the USA, and I have a very high degree of confidence in them, too.

I always put anti-seize on the studs on my wheels here in BC. I have had people here tell me that is bad practice, but here in BC it gets quite wet in the winter. I have never had a wheel come off when anti-seize was applied. However I do make sure the nuts are on to spec. The only time I have seen wheels come off was when the lug nuts were not on to spec or there was some other failure.

+1 to a little dab. The rotor/ hub surface gets a nice liberal coating, but for the studs, just a small dab.

I retorque them after 100 or so miles and have never had an issue. I check torque before any long drive and have never found one loose.
