Do you have any issues with leaks on your Gowesty spout? I just purchased one and I keep getting leaks. It's non-refundable once opened so I tossed it in a drawer to probably never be used.I did have the Rockslide Engineering strap & plates but now I use the TrailRax mounting system.

Michael, I'm curious as to why you went with the 2 gallon water packs that don't click together? Is it to match the 2.5 gallon fuel ones on the other side? I've got mine mounted up so that the spout is usable while attached to the rig and then I just change the spouts and flip the packs when I'm done with the first 2 gal, and the second one is ready to be filled up at the next gas station/dollar store where I can find gallons of water. This process can be repeated indefinitely so that I've always got fresh drinking water for my pups and it's darn handy for a quick hand wash or cup of coffee at camp. I'm sure you have your reasons as well, as it seems you've gone out of your way to mount your packs in a unique way. It could see it being easier to mount and move around with half the weight, as well as being able to carry 10 gallons of gas if you have more fuel packs. Care to share your reasoning?I did have the Rockslide Engineering strap & plates but now I use the TrailRax mounting system.

I know you didn't ask me specifically, but as I've got the same spout I'll chime in with my two cents.Do you have any issues with leaks on your Gowesty spout? I just purchased one and I keep getting leaks. It's non-refundable once opened so I tossed it in a drawer to probably never be used.
I replaced the o-rings on both spouts as what was supplied with them were pretty poor excuses for a sealing ring. I also replaced the gaskets on the gasoline cans. The stock Rotopax units were also sub-par.Do you have any issues with leaks on your Gowesty spout? I just purchased one and I keep getting leaks. Interesting, I tend to have some drips from the rotopax collar if it's not tightened until the very last click of the collar. It may well be self imposed at this point ? Mind sharing what you used to replace the stock rotopax gasket?I replaced the o-rings on both spouts as what was supplied with them were pretty poor excuses for a sealing ring. Also, you don't need to really crank down on the Rotopax collar. It tends to deform and tear the gaskets.
I got some Buna (nitrile or NBR) o-rings from Ace Hardware.Interesting, I tend to have some drips from the rotopax collar if it's not tightened until the very last click of the collar. It may well be self imposed at this point ? Mind sharing what you used to replace the stock rotopax gasket?
Hmm ok I'll try some teflon tape. It seems like the leak is coming from the gasket I removed from the original spout and then put around the silver piece from the GoWesty. No amount of tightening on the original collar seems to seal it. I'll keep messing around with it and see if I can make it work.I know you didn't ask me specifically, but as I've got the same spout I'll chime in with my two cents.
I've had to fuss with it a couple times myself, but it always seals up fine after I do. I wrapped it with teflon, and have tightened the spout up fairly tight to keep it from dripping. The rotopax ratcheting collar has to be aggressively tight as well in order to get a good seal. Once it seals up it will hold water for weeks, through pressure/temp/elevation change, but it can take a little fussing with to get it to seal from time to time.
I would make sure your leak isn't coming from the collar on the rotopax first (tighten it until it won't go any further), check that you've got teflon on the threads of the GoWesty spout, and then start tightening the GoWesty spout until it quits dripping (or cracks). What have you got to lose? If it breaks you're in the same boat you're in now. If it works you're good to go.
I'm curious if you have a different o ring type on your setup? Mine wraps around the shoulder of the spout. I don't know if I could replace it with just a standard o-ring, but it's possible that I'm missing something.I got some Buna (nitrile or NBR) o-rings from Ace Hardware.
They are thicker and a bit more pliable than the stock gaskets, so they form around the collars and outlets better.
I haven't tried teflon on that side, but it very well could work. You could get another gasket with the purchase of a water spout if needed. Steal the gasket from the new water spout, and if you have a rotopax gas can you can then swap the spout on the gas can. The self venting spout is much less fussy than the CARB compliant oneHmm ok I'll try some teflon tape. Nope, we have/had the same things. The o-rings I used were as thick, if not a bit thicker, than the stock gaskets.I'm curious if you have a different o ring type on your setup?
