AGM BATTERY CHARGING

Going to swap out stock battrery for an AGM type battery like the optima DH7. WII’ll my alternator charge the battery ok or do I need to do some type of upgrade? I have a 2018 Rubicon 3.6L.

JLs are designed for and factory-equiped with AGM start batteries; so, you don't need an upgrade to use one.

Our 2021 EcoDiesel has an AGM battery while the 2020 eTorque has a sealed lead acid main battery.

It didn’t come as a surprise since there are a few other differences I’ve noticed, but I have always wondered if the charging approach was modified to support the different battery technology.

Now I’m wondering if ‘20 originally came with a AGM and the service department changed types when they warrantied the battery. It’s been in there since probably 2022, maybe ‘23… Guess I should consider changing it…

I agree that this swap is perfectly fine as you are replacing your existing (AGM) battery with one of identical chemistry.

If you are upgrading to a larger (H7) battery from H6 you will need to remove a cleat in the bottom of the battery tray to accommodate the H7 battery.

What is the status of your Aux battery? Do you have one connected in your 2018? If so, best practices would have you bypass it or replace it as well at the same time you install the Optima.

Perfect thank you. I think I’ll probably go with an AGM. As it turns out, this morning remote start didn’t work for my wife and the aux switches unavailable message came up. Will probably be doing it this week.
