Thanks. I like them a lot, too! Let's see how well they hold up. I haven't seen anyone complain about the Mopar rings, so I am not concerned.

I should also mention Mopar's is 9.8, while AEV's is 8.8.
Those look great. I tried stainless cap heads on my spare last night, but I think your black is ideal. Where did you buy them from and what is the cost for the 120 or so we need? Thanks.

Hi,

read that I will need different locking nuts if I use the JK specific +4 offset Borahs. Does anyone have links to where I can purchase them?

also if I am using the Teraflex tire carrier, do I still need to mod the wheel to fit the carrier to mount onto the reverse cam?

thanks.

So I have a set of stainless capheads that @Bryce graciously sent me for free, as he wasn’t using them. I’m thinking about pushing all 125 of them through a piece of cardboard, really closely together, and using my black AEV touch up paint to paint the heads black. Do you think the paint will stick (the AEV paint is great stuff)? What would be the best way to clean the heads first? Just rubbing alcohol? And, if I use enough anti-seize, do I still need to worry about galvanic corrosion between the stainless and the aluminum? I may just run my beauty rings the 3-4 weekend a year I’m off-roading in the rocks, because I really do like the look of the wheel with the black plastic cap heads and the scallops in the wheel rim. I’m guessing for a weekend here or there, and a bunch of stainless anti-seize, I should be fine.

the thought of taking the rings on and off each time makes me want to cry though…

So do I get tires balanced with protection rings on? Or install them afterwards?

I've done both and it didn't really matter. I take them off to get new tires put on and so the techs don't have to worry about them. I put them back on and I don't notice any out of balance. When I get a regular balancing, I just leave them on.

Awesome. Thank you.
if I install the rings on the wheels before tires get mounted do you know if they will they need to take them off to mount the tires?

The Discount Tire that I got mine from asked me to remove them. I think they didn't want to be liable for any damage. I'd ask whoever was going to install the tires though.

After installing mine this weekend, my hunch is that they stick out far enough that you'd want to remove them before they used their tire machine on the wheel. It's "substantial" in terms of thickness, in my opinion.

I got mine balanced with the rings on at discount tire. The guys there said the rings are heavy enough to throw it off balance and recommended they balance them with the rings on.

I can see that, especially if you have some chunks missing out of them from rock rash. Discount Tire said I could return right away for another balance if I felt i needed to after putting them back on after they put the new tires on. I didn't feel the need to go back, but will at 5K miles since they are lifetime rotate/balance with the tire purchase.

Ya, there's a lot of metal there. TBH, it gave me a reason to pull mine off, clean up some rash and respray them when I got new tires.

That's the primary reason that I opted to not get them. There's the thickness of the ring itself, then the bolts stick out another quarter inch or so. That's going to get hit on the trail significantly more than if they weren't there sticking out that far. Hopefully it's not a half inch overall, but I'm thinking that it might be close to that.

And, of course, when you take them off you'll very likely see that the paint on the wheel has been scratched up by the ring, especially if you're using them as intended. Was trailing with a guy yesterday that experienced that fiasco.

All of this is completely plausible, John. I'll be interested to see if mine get any rash in Moab this weekend. Stay tuned.
