AEV Borah wheels on JL

I received my JL borah wheels today. 1 of the 5 has a problem with the center cap. It won’t fully seat. And if I swap center caps around doesn’t change. So definitely a wheel problem. Which they are replacing only once I send the other back. I also received a damaged protection ring that they don’t think is damaged “enough” for a return. Lol. I understand it’s a sacrificial part but I wanted to be the one to scratch them up. And to top it off the bolts are all 8.8 bolts. They claim that’s what they use with protection rings even though package says 10.9. So far hasn’t been a great first impression with aev. Had I known I would have looked elsewhere for wheels.

I saw on an earlier post they changed them to 10.9. I could be wrong. But they should probably fix the label then for the protection ring bolts

Dang! I got the same bolts, but I didn't pay attention to the label. Either way I am getting new bolts. I will be trying the black bolts that come with the mopar protective ring.

Found these two. One is for the trim ring, and the other is the functional beadlock. It looks like the mopar functional beadlock bolt is similar to AEV's galvanized bolt. I'm going to get the trim bolt for all wheels and see how that goes, if not, will try the functional bead lock bolt next. (Both come with washers so that's a plus!)

Has anyone tried the mopar beadlock bolts with this? I can’t find their size online, but if they fit, that would be a great alternative!

The 392 beadlock capable wheels take a M10x1.50. The XR Beadlock capable wheel takes a M8x1.25.

Even the mopar bolt will rust in time or turn green when exposed to the sun. If you guys want a better solution drill some holes in a piece of cardboard and stick all your bolts in up to the heads. 1 can of self etching primer and 1 can of whatever color paint you want and you have a much better chance at protecting them until the rock win! ? ?

Thank you for that info! The borah JL is M8, and I believe what I ordered is the XR bolts, which is also M8 (Genuine Mopar Wheel Trim Ring Bolt - 6511068AA | All Mopar Parts).

I already emailed and they said they are hoping to ship sometime next week. (Order 145056561). I ordered 130 bolts (a few extra just in case). Didn't know it will take this long!

Yes with matching washers. Any bolt that you get that doesn't have some form of "automotive" finish on it will rust. My bolts in time will either rust or turn green if exposed to the sun. I always just drill some holes in cardboard and spray them down with self etching primer and paint over it before install. Then they stay nice for a long time. But even then you're going to scratch the coating during install. It's a vicious cycle. ? ?

However, I do have these in stock and can ship within the hour.

These bolts should not be taking so long to get. Even though Mopar has stock available at a local NY depot they referred this order to MI, The ETA is March 7th. I have no idea what they are thinking.

Do the Mopar oem bolts need to be painted? I would think not.

Most bolts have some form of rust inhibiter to keep them from rusting until you purchase them. The OEM bolts are no different. When you purchase them you'll see the coating has taken a beating so they'll start to rust where the coating is missing. Then you hammer on the coating with a socket and more coating comes off. So it rusts there.

My bolts have a black oxide finish but that isn't some magical process to stop the rust indefinitely. It's steel. Steel rusts. If you care about your bolts staying nice you need to install the socket cap style bolts that use an allen key. Then paint the inside of the socket cap where you damaged the paint.

Or... go scrape it up on rocks and forget about it. ?

I hear you, but I’m also pretty sure that the oem bolts from Mopar don’t need to be painted to stay rust free. Maybe I’m incorrect in thinking the oem XR wheels come with black bolts; is that correct? And are those like $2.50 a piece (so close to $300 for a set of them?).

Black oxide will rust overnight if not painted. I’m just wondering what the oem finish is that keeps them from rusting. I’m guessing they’re finished with an oem type paint, which makes sense buying wheels and bolts directly from Mopar.

Last question: are the oem bolts socket cap?
