Nah- I got ya by a few, but we’re nowhere near big guys. I use the grab handle with the little Mopar “step assist”. …..
Unfortunately and I really & truly hate to admit it but these days are long gone for me. 👇

..It's difficult to envision the vehicle engineers being unable to design a grab handle, of all things, that isn't as strong as the roll bar on which it's mounted...
A reasonable person, or one not familiar with these Jeeps would be forgiven for thinking so. I, on the other hand, am intimately familiar with the junk-like nature of the vehicle, and regard the A-pillar handle as nothing more than ornamental. And it seems to be performing in that role quite admirably.

Hey— it’s also the perfect mount for a Banks i-dash guage pod. 👍 either top or bottom too 😁

I use the driver-side A-pillar grab handle to get into my XR 4dr. almost every time. While initially stable, it is now bending toward the outside of the Jeep, and has play. This is causing a big gap in the trim piece up near the left side of the visor.

I have taken out the handle screws and examined the area behind the A-pillar trim. It seems the handle is bolted to a bracket that attaches to the roll bar, but the bracket is not "boxed" in, and is fatigued at the driver-side mount point. Anyone else with this problem? I'd think a part that was intended for repeated stresses would have been more securely mounted to the roll bar. Any ideas?

Thanks!

As I was climbing in mine today I thought of your question. You might think about adding steps, like the IAG EZ steps if you have factory rock rails. I use the grab handle, but most of my 220lbs is on the step, using the handle mostly as another point of contact for a little help and some stability. In other words, you'd still use it, but the step bares most of the weight. I just installed the IAG steps and they're a great product.

Not nearly as cool but image how much faster Bo and Luke could have gotten into the General Lee if they didn’t weld the doors shut.
Well, maybe they hoped welding them shut they would last more than one jump. 🙁
“Schneider gave his view on the heavy toll the show took on the iconic tv car, stating that “My conservative estimate is 329” of the cars were used up over the course of the series. “150 shows, two cars a show, a little room in there for error” ….. “Over 230 Chargers were not only damaged but destroyed during the filming of the show” :crying:

@Stingfello , can you post a picture to see how bad the handle is deformed?

I think it’s reasonable to assume a handle designed to assist someone mounting the vehicle should be able to hold up for 9/10 users. A bit of user-blaming otherwise.

I would but don't want to bend it again! I've moved it back to make it look right, and now use a roll-bar handle I bolted on. If used, the a-piller handle will move toward the door, and a large gap will occur in the trim joint just left of the sun visor.

Agree with your thoughts though. Just wish this part was securely bolted to the roll bar itself, without the weaker bracket in between.

I find the pillar mounted handle useless for entry. The roll bar mounted, web handle, is all I have ever used on my Wranglers or my Gladiator.
