I am a tad older than most and have rebuilt and used/driven Ford, Chevy, International, Chrysler and MB auto transmissions over the past 55 years.

I cannot say enough so far with the Jeep 8-Speed Automatic 850RE Transmission behind my 3.6L. It's smooth when down shifting. It maintains engine RPMs and with the cruise set at 35mph will maintain that speed even on steep paved roads to within +3mph. Yes, I realize a lot has to do with the ECM.

With 17,000 miles today I am hoping at 117,000 this transmission.

What say YOU??

I completely agree. This is the best auto trans I've had. I also had a version of one in a '16 Hemi Ram... also great.
As you probably know, it's essentially a rebranded (and built by FCA) ZF-8. I also have the ZF-8 in my wife's X5. Awesome trans!

Jeeps may be the only vehicle I rather have an auto in. partly because how good the auto is paired with the v6 and partly due to how bad the manual is.

Agree, I had 2 JK’s with the 5 speed, the 2021 with the JL is a nice, improved, difference. Never had any issues with my 2012 or 2016, but do like the 2021 with the extra gears!

I’ve had a 15 Challenger SRT 392, 15 Grand Cherokee, and 18 Alfa Romeo, and two JL’s…. Best automatic IN MY LIFE.

I just did my transmission service just before 100k miles. Pretty easy. It’s not a lifetime fluid in my opinion if you care about it lasting as long as possible. Expensive transmission!!

It's easily the best auto transmission I've ever driven. The gearing and shift 'timing' is exceptional paired with the 2.0T. Under half throttle launches it shifts into 2nd just as the powerband really kicks in and feels like booster rockets just fired.
I've had the rear actually kick out when turning onto an entrance ramp.
At highway speeds it drops a gear quickly when moving to pass, and holds lower gears when decending off throttle, allowing engine braking to hold just long enough.
I'm just over 80k miles and am doing the service - along with installing a shiny new PPE pan - over the MLK holiday weekend along with all the other fluids. Engine, T-case and diffs.

Don't forget to change the transmission fluid and filter at 50,000 miles. No such thing as lifetime fluid. It isn't hard to change either. I use a transmission fluid pump tank, it makes it very easy to put the new trans fluid back in also works great to change your gearbox fluid.

I AGREE!!! We have both the JKR and JLR with automatic transmissions. They are both great...

The only issue I’m having is with the kiddos 17. It seems the torque converter clutch is sticking in park after sitting overnight in cold temps. I’m going to try the cheap route first instead of $2500 to replace the converter (that’s too in depth for me nowadays). I’ll try the Redline CHF + fluid. My thinking is its viscosity is lower at cold temps. That means it abnormally has viscosity modifiers which will probably mean the fluid needs changing a bit more often. We’ll try just a fluid change first and just look for positive change.

Thank you for the advice. I am old school, however, and if there are no leaks, I have always changed at 30,000.

REMEMBER FLUID CHANGES ARE CHEAPER THAN MECHANICAL REPAIRS.
