Between the manual guys wanting to set it in a gear and leave it and the auto guys bitching that their Jeep won't stay in 8th gear up hill or into a headwind
Especially the ones with 4.10 and higher gears. Try it with 33s and 3.45 gears.

Interesting, SadRobot.

Can you tell us how the regearing affected your fuel economy, if you've driven enough since then to have determined the difference?
I've put about 2000 miles on since the re-gear. Fuel economy has been about the same. I get around 18-19 mpg which was what I was getting with the 33s and 3.45 gears.

It's been a combo of city streets and highway speeds of 65-75 mph. I've just started a new job with a commute which will mostly be stop and go traffic on the highway for 45 minutes so I imagine that's going to have an effect on efficiency.

When I’m on the highway - which isn’t often-I see 6th regularly since re-gearing to 4.88’s. There is actually power in 6th with 4.88’s/315-70’s. Running 3.45’s/stock 245/75 tires getting into 6th was uncommon here in Colorado.
I can't wait to get it into 6th tooling down I70

I have a 2022 with manual 6 speed. Rolling down the interstate at 80 in 5th I am running about 2500 RPMs. Does anyone even use 6th? It doesn't seem to have the juice to run hilly country at 75-80 in 6th and 75 is about the top end of speed limit around here.
4.10's changes the nature of the rig. All gears are improved. 6th and 3.45 is useless.

With my Rubi manual on my 33s I only used 6th when going over 80-85+ when traveling on interstates. Usually was in 5th with rpms around 2500. Now I’m on 37s and need to regear. I’m lucky to hit 5th.

I mostly drive mine like a 4 speed. I use 5th for flat highway cruising over 65mph. If I use 6th it actually lugs so much I end up getting poor mpg. Seems like these double overdrive manual transmissions need 4.10s or above.
I'm already planning 4.56 gears and I only plan to go up to 33s at the most for tire size.

On my 3.45 gears and 32" tires, I did some long test runs at exactly 65 mph in 5th vs. 6th and got worse fuel economy in 6th. At 65 mph, 6th is starting to lug.

Try the same test at 80mph? Right gear for the job.
Yes, 6th gear is suitable for cruising at 75 mph and above. But at those speeds the fuel economy is much worse than any gear at lower speed!

Why do most MT jeepers think you have to be above 2500 rpms and cruising? I'm not understanding that. Granted I have a stock sport. But I run 55 in 6th gear and it still pulls. Slow sure ur not passing anyone but...and this is why most of you have a manual tranny...downshift.

If you're in the hills. Then keep it in fourth and call it a day.

Are most of you guys four door? Maybe that's where I'm not understanding, I'm in 2 door.

My 6th gear at 55 has gotten me 33 MPG for a two hour road trip. I will admit that the gears in the jeep are bad but really I only feel that for the first gear and reverse. Between that and towing i occasionally do I'm going for 4.88s and 33s, but I'll sure miss having 1700 RPMs at 60 MPH

I'm a 2 door and I honestly cannot comprehend how you can drive 55 in 6th gear. That would be in the 1400 RPM range. I'm lugging just slightly at 65 mph. Below that the engine starts making lugging noises and vibrations and I can't even cruise on a flat highway.
