so I have been looking around for a while but I'm not getting enough information on this topic. Im looking forward to doing a 5.7 swap in my 3.6 Jeep JL Sahara, and I'm wondering what parts would have to be changed (transmission, axles, etc) and I was also wondering how much it would cost.

As the old saying goes, " If you have to ask the cost, you can't afford it..." Seriously, having it professionally done, close to 30k give or take.

To be fair a lot of that 30k is the brand new crate motor they want to drop in it. If you're dropping a junkyard motor in it maybe freshened up a little bit and willing to do the labor yourself it is significantly cheaper.

Engine, Transmission. Probably front/rear diffs, cause I doubt the stock ones will last long. I'd say all in about $70,000 if you do all new.

The transmissions fine unless it's a manual. The front axle probably isn't the best but it'll work fine at least for a while. That's entirely up to how he drives.

Electronics will be the bummer.

Not really. What is a pain is getting the old harnesses out and putting the new ones in to support the V8. Obviously a harness meant to run six injectors and six coil packs isn't going to work on the V8 hemi. But everything else will be fine. The stock Jeep electronics are capable of handling the V8 with a reflash.

If you can find a wrecked 392 then you have a wiring harness, drivetrain, etc. Just replace what's damaged. You could possibly even re-use the computer.

And here I was fretting over the cost of finishing up a rotary swap on my Samurai.

Probably better off buying a 392. More power and you’ll probably spend less money. There are used ones around 70k.

Way back when a local speed shop had a sign over the counter “Speed costs money. How fast you wanna go?” Still applies?

Brand new 5.7 crate, found them last month for $5995. The lion's share is NOT the hemi. Throttle body to oil pan, injectors, exhaust manifolds.
