Now that I've been able to compare 3 different trims multiple times on the same 150 mi trip from Boston to Albany and back, under the same conditions (cruise set at 74mph pretty much the whole way), sharing my results:
1. 2021 Sahara w/ 3.73 LSD and stock BF Goodrich all-seasons (P275s - not the skinnier P255s they put on Sahara's now): 22 mpg
2. 2024 High Altitude w/ same axles and tire sizes, but stock General All-Terrains: 19 mpg
3. 2022 Rubicon with 4.10 and stock Goodyears: 17 mpg
The drop from #2 to #3 makes sense to me. Still can't explain the 14% drop from #1 to #2 by just tires, but that is the only difference. I do feel like #2 holds 8th gear less often - maybe the extra rolling resistance is just enough for the more frequent downshifts to 7th?
Still pretty crazy how much it can vary by trim.
