Now that I've been able to compare 3 different trims multiple times on the same 150 mi trip from Boston to Albany and back, under the same conditions (cruise set at 74mph pretty much the whole way), sharing my results:

1. 2021 Sahara w/ 3.73 LSD and stock BF Goodrich all-seasons (P275s - not the skinnier P255s they put on Sahara's now): 22 mpg
2. 2024 High Altitude w/ same axles and tire sizes, but stock General All-Terrains: 19 mpg
3. 2022 Rubicon with 4.10 and stock Goodyears: 17 mpg

The drop from #2 to #3 makes sense to me. Still can't explain the 14% drop from #1 to #2 by just tires, but that is the only difference. I do feel like #2 holds 8th gear less often - maybe the extra rolling resistance is just enough for the more frequent downshifts to 7th?

Still pretty crazy how much it can vary by trim.

Cool data collection on a single repeatable stretch of road. Thanks for sharing. I too am surprised at the variance between the Saharah and High Altitude since they both have street tires vs the Rubicon with knobby off road tires. I would guess that the high altitude might have more weight (sound absorption material, double layer windscreen), but I wouldn't think weight alone wouldn't cause that large of a difference. Maybe the High Altitude needed higher tire pressure with the lower profile tires to get better mpgs?

I experimented with higher tire pressures on a trip from Boston to the FL Keys. Virtually no impact.

I've never seen more than 16mpg above 70-75 -

Under 55 I see 20 on a Rubicon with 35's and a 2.5" metal cloak lift

South Jersey to Albany, our 2024 Sahara 4xe will average 24 mpg at 65 mph and our 2024 Rubicon 4xe gets about 22 mpg. These figures are after the electricity is used up, both vehicles are completely stock but Rubicon has steel bumper and winch package as well. We can add about 3 mpg to those numbers at 45-50 mph on local roads.
