Having own many vehicles over my lifetime and installed oil catch cans on the majority of them. Just wondering if anyone has installed one on their 4Xe, I know on my JLUS V6 it catches a lot of oil that would either have been put back into the intake manifold and burn cycle. I do see a kit specifically built for the 4Xe from Mishimoto. Here is a quick internet URL with a simple description/benefits: https://blog.modbargains.com/turbo-car-need-oil-catch-can/

I was thinking about doing this. Someone on FB posted that they did they and they get a lot of gunk.

Was wondering...

On Harley motorcycles, lots of people just route the breathers to the air and not back into the intake, so that the hot oxygen depleted air is not sucked back in. Wondering if that could be done on the 4xe or will that throw a code (intake of PCV looking for air coming in - or something like that).

Still researching and looking at different catch can options. Have looked at Mishimoto but they are $$$.

After work today was thinking of trying a mock up of what is done on Harleys to see if there are any ill effects.

There was a post on here that someone put a Mishimoto can on their 4xe. The only caviat is that he had to buy the correct engine accessory bracket to mount the can, as it was missing on his 4xe.

I had a can on my 2018 3.6L and it captured a lot. But, from my research on the 2.0, most people agree that it does not need it. One thing that I found interesting is that the 2.0 has two breather systems, and all of the catch cans sold for it only filter the front one.

@redracer , agree some engines don't need them. We had an Infiniti Q50 RS 400 Red Sport (twin turbo/400HP/AWD) and that catch can was always empty. It could be because these 4Xe 2.0L are Direct Injection as was the Infiniti.

There's a "clean side" and a "dirty side". All engines have 2. The "dirty" side is the one connected to the pcv line and is under manifold vacuum. The "clean" side is connected to a breather and is under air filter vacuum. The clean side doesn't usually pick up much is anything as there is not enough flow from the breather. Not usually worth doing. I have both on my 2.0 and the clean side gets almost nothing. The dirty side gets oil in the catch can.
