I just crossed 6k on my 24' Rubicon X 4xE, time for its first Oil Change. Any recommendations on type, Brand, and/or dealer service or not?

I see a lot of talk on the forums about Oil recs, but not many for 4xe specifically. Grateful for any feedback or experiences shared.

Thanks in advance!

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic 5W-30 Motor Oil (5-Quart, Single Pack) https://a.co/d/4U2K2gr

I’ve been using this oil for years. I had the dealer do my first 3 oil changes because it was free.

This makes oil changes a lot easier. I use them on all of my vehicles.

As for the type, what does the 4xe owner's manual recommend?

For your 2024 Rubicon 4xe, mate, you're probably looking at needing a particular sort of oil, usually a synthetic blend or a full synthetic, which is what most of these new engines are after. Now, when it comes to brands, you've got your top-notch ones that'll do the job right. We're talking about the likes of Mobil 1, Castrol, Valvoline – they're the names you hear banded about. Make sure whatever you pick is up to the specs your motor needs, yeah?

Thanks for the Recs and links, Much appreciated. 5W-30 is the recommended, I'm thinking I'll let service handle the first couple but will eventually do them myself. Thanks again!

Make sure you change that oil often. I wouldn't go beyond 5k miles especially if you use the battery for the majority of your trips. You'd be amazed how trashed the oil is coming out of that 2.0T after just 3000 miles of use.

Yeah I was planning to get it done earlier. Once I hit 4500 miles I thought to schedule it and didn't get around to it. Will definitely take that rec.

Much appreciated!

Ditto me, I use the same oil and drain valve. I just did my first oil change with the valve installed, and it was completely tool-less! I was able to remove the filter by hand, thankfully I had installed it and not some kid in the pit with a impact wrench.

I do recommend the K&N HP-1017 oil filters with the external nut on the housing to remove it with a wrench if necessary. I have a skidplate bracket obstructing using other tools. Again these are affordable on Amazon,

That Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is also what Jeep dealers are supposed to use, now that they don't brand their own motor oil anymore.

*and the 4xe takes the same oil as other wranglers, so you can read those other threads and arguments ad infinitum :)

I’m going to do my oil change Friday. My first 3 were done by the dealer “free”. I pray that the filter wasn’t torqued on lol! I absolutely hate that crap!
