'23 4xe - just noticed that the oil pressure will fluctuate between ~18 and 46 PSI. In hybrid and esaver modes. Is this normal? Most of the time it's at 18 but will bump for a time to 45 - 46.

To my knowledge, and if I get this wrong I am sure someone will correct me. But going off memory and what I read about the hurricane Turbo 4 it has 2 oil pumps.

I believe the variation of pressure's you are seeing is normal.

The oil pump has two flow rates. Depending on several factors, the computer will decide if low flow or full flow is necessary. Saves fuel when running in low flow mode. Probably almost no noticeable fuel savings though.

Normal. That's what it does.

Hmmm, interesting. It is weird watching the pressure go up and down.

The 3.6L V6 goes up and down as well. Same concept of pump. But the pressures are a lot higher than 18 on my 3.6

This is normal for the Hurricane as other posters have mentioned. I have the non-4xe 2.0L and I have OCD so I watch my diagnostics closely, and have for the last 3 years of owning it. 16-22 on the low end and either 42-46 or 47-51 completely normal ranges I've seen during regular operation. The computer knows what it's doing, though on steep grades or at some highway speeds, sometimes adjusting the throttle/cruise control can help it 'pick' the right mode more easily, and not have the engine working so hard. Would guess the hybrid engine system has an even easier time managing that though, so don't worry about babying it. It's a solid engine, keep the oil clean (3-4k miles ime) and she'll treat you right for years.

Had me concerned there for a few minutes - thanks all!

Now I just need to find the source of a small oil leak that's developed after ~2K miles!

Almost all engines have oil pressure that fluctuates depending on load and rpm. Most cars don’t have real gauges that show data. Most gauges in cars today are just analog idiot lights. If the numbers did not change and were stuck on a single pressure, I would be very worried. Seeing them move in relation to engine load and rpm tells me if it is working correctly.

I had the V6 in a '21 before the 4xe and I didn't notice a large variation in pressure but I do remember the normal, running pressure being being around 30psi?

I have a Wrangler High Altitude (maybe 1% of all 4xe's) and my oil pressure too resides in that range. Just changed the oil at 2400 miles and it remains at that pressure.
I too was concerned but I believe that's the norm. When you accelerate under the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) the pressure does rise to the 45-46. High oil pressure like high blood pressure is not good!!

Be well.

I had the 3.6 and now i have the 2.0 4xe. And the one thing that I noticed with oil pressure is that the 3.6 has a 2 stage oil pump that is purely mechanical - meaning that at a specific RPM the pressure jumps up and back down at that same RPM. The 2.0, however, is electronically driven - in that it picks when to go up or down in pressure and it can happen at any RPM or load.
