Being from New England, I'd opt for the full time case. If 90% of your use will be New England driving, it makes the most sense to get you more control on snowy/rainy days through the winter. I live out west now and the last thing I want is CV boots and a clutch system because most of what I do here is dry and rock crawling year-round, so my ratio of when I'd benefit is different.

Last winter I was able to pull some sick snow donuts because I could keep my Jeep in 2WD. Much less fun if I were to have full time 4WD. Don't pay the premium, just pull the lever.
You can still leave it in 2wd if you really want to do donuts. There is a transfer case lever position for 2wd, 4wd full time hi, 4wd part time hi, and 4wd low.

If you're planning on doing any long distance towing, I'd get 4-hi-auto since it evens out the load between the axles which is why it's standard on the 392 and 4xe. I wouldn't worry about tearing a CV boot, it happens, but rare, and you can still limp home with a torn boot over a broken u-joint. As mentioned, it's also nice on those high speed gravel roads that are often necessary to get to the good stuff.

Against having a full time 4wd system. But CVs > U-Joints. So I would imagine you'd have an upgrade there.

I have it and love it. I think some have the idea that 4wd auto replaces 2wd when purchasing it. As you stated it just adds a lever position for 4wd Auto.

Do not get the selec trac, the one with 4h auto. Error light after error light...The clutch pack is always having problem. The lock up on dry payment and you felt binding...They slip in snow offroading, leaving me without 4wd...Horrible. And, they are just not true AWD, no matter what marketing bs its is not AWD.

4:1 rock-trac simple no bs nothing you need to worry about....if you want awd they get a vehicle with real center differential.....

I got my ’22 Rubi XR without it and live in NH. I just switched to 4Hi on the highways when needed. No issues at speed.
