303 Protectant

So, this weekend finally saw some sun and decided to treat the softtop to some TLC. Sprayed it down with 303 and let her dry. Next day hopped in and realised some dots of overspray (it was a touch windy) had settled on windshield.

Tried a quick washer fluid rinse, no joy. Then some Invisible Glass, nope. Finally had to get straight 70% iso alcohol and elbow grease. What a pain in the ass. Lol.

I did have an application of RainX as well so I'm not sure if that made the problem worse or better but needless to say, I'll be washing windshield instantly next time I use 303. Stuff works like a charm though.

Thanks for the tip. I usually spray it on and wipe it off the hard top. I normally stay away from glass, but now I know to really be careful!

I put 303 on my old TJ's hardtop, all it did was wash off and leave black streaks on the white paint. It looked good until the first rain though...

Interesting… I use 303 protectant on all the black plastic on the Jeep, but hadn’t thought to use it on the soft top. Does it make a difference?

Like I said above. I've never used it on my HT. I was under the impression it was for fabrics only. It makes a huge difference, water beads off as opposed to soaking into it.

The hardtop is painted matte black with single stage paint, not molded in color like the fenders. Don't put a protectant on it.

You can use Turtle Wax Ice on it or detail sprays, to include the ceramic ones. Wax with cleaner in it, the type that leaves white residue, will never come completely off the hardtop and will remove the paint a little at a time. Armor All will strip the black paint after a period of time, and will look terrible. Don't use Back to Black, you will regret it for a long time.

Even as good as 303 is, it's the wrong product for the paint on the black hardtop.

303 should be good for the sailcloth/vinyl coated soft top. The twill soft top would probably be better treated with a product like 3M Scotchgaurd.

That's what I thought as well. Mine is a painted HT but I would still just use wax on it.

Two different Bestop reps ... that have been with Bestop for many years.....when I talked to them, both recommended this 303 product for cleaning the Bestop Sunrider for Hardtop (or a convertible top) over the Bestop offering.

I did take their advice! .... and use both products.

In regard to the 303 Fabric guard:

NO, you do not wipe it on the Sunrider. Read the directions on the bottle. Don't saturate as multiple light coats are best.

Yes, do cover all surrounding areas as the over spray of the product will be difficult to remove from paint, window glass, plastics, etc.
