I dont think it was designed for fuel economy but for green house gases. I dont know how much it saves but someone has it figured out.
I really hope that's not the actual reason. I mean sure, breathing clean air is a good thing and all, but the amount of potential waste (eventually a replacement battery or vehicle itself) really isn't good for the environment either.

I mean, say you could magically get 20-years out of it (likely with a new battery pack or some luck), how much greenhouse gas is generated mining the lithium and producing either the replacement battery or replacement vehicle that could've easily lasted another decade or longer on the used market? I still see so many cars and trucks each day that were built in the 90s, 80s and some even earlier. Potentially cutting a vehicle's lifespan in half really doesn't help anything.

And I'm absolutely not knocking EV at all, just thinking that there really needs to be careful consideration to what benefits are actually gained (lowered fuel cost, improved performance and a decrease in pollution that far outweighs that which is generated by a more limited longevity).

Looking forward to the 3.6L etorque (mild hybrid) in my yet to be delivered Willys.
The similar mild hybrid setup in my wife's X5 X40i with its 3.0L B58 engine is incredible. When run in the standard start/stop mode the engine starts are virtually imperceptible.
The shifting smoothness that that setup provides in its 8-spd, (also a ZF, albeit newer version) is impressive.
I've got about 1700 miles on the eTorque in my Willys, and am loving it so far. I thought I'd hate stop/start but am realizing how much and for how long I sit at stop lights and drive through windows. The tech is a welcome addition to my city driving with the current increased gas prices.

Also, in 2 door form, a Jeep with 3.6 eTorque is a surprisingly quick and smooth performing vehicle.

Did it to my buddies Track Corvette but that’s’ not a Diesel.
Are you sure that it was a turbo and not a supercharger? Superchargers are belt driven and could do what you claimed. There's no way that a turbo will do damage to the belt drive system.

used lots are filled with 3.6 engines. Tougher to find a 2.0. If anyone drives cross country I-80 u know evis far from becoming a norm. The 3.6er's on this site are either rock crawlers or trolls

Thx... read your posts. Hard to argue and I wonder whether I remember your heeds of warning, 8 years from now. I use a Tazer to disable the start/stop so hopefully that will lead to longevity?

One reason I bought the 3.6L auto was hoping it would last me 10 to 20 and be my last gasser.
Hey - who knows...maybe in 8 years if anything craps out there will be something better to replace it with - enjoy your 3.6 Etorque - I have 23k on mine and so far it's been smooth operating.

Right.

Unlike Ford V6s, which are either sitting at the factory waiting for spare parts, sitting on top of a flatbed truck getting towed, or sitting at the dealer waiting for a new engine...

The auto manufactures admitted that e torque and ESS do not help miles per gallon. How do we know this. With the chip shortage they started shipping vehicles without ESS and E torque and the mpg on window stickers stayed the same ? When they were called out on it they said oh it doesn’t help mpg it helps emissions. Lol who knows what’s true.

Thought for sure the 2.0 would take out the 3.6 on the wranglers and possibly see the hurricane but this makes me wonder.

Did you read the same article, I did? There are currently 2 production lines for the 3.6. One of them will be shutdown and turned into storage.

And $27M for an engine plant is nothing. Probably only enough to decommission the second line.

The way I read it, this is stage one of transitioning away from the 3.6. Stage 2 should come in 2-3 years.

Thanks for the post, ESS is crap and e torque is crappier, just another thing, to take a dumb, on us!
