3.5" lift shock question

Looking to order the RK 3.5 X-factor no limits lift today while @Northridge4x4 has it on sale. I was thinking to get the RK lift with the MC 6pak shocks. The RK shocks are a little longer, but 6pak can get more stuff into fender on my JLUR.

Just looking for advice on this possible setup.

I put a MC GC3.5's on my wife's JLUR using the RockSport shocks. I looked around for replacement options and found that in most cases I had to look in the 4"-6" lift shocks from other companies. I later spoke to MC at the Jeep Invasion in Pigeon Forge and they confirmed that replacements needed to be close to the same overall and compressed length to keep the same performance. With that being said, I'm sure the same holds true for the RK suspensions. Which one is a better shock?!? Who knows!!

I have run the 6pak shocks on my last two jeeps. The first was a JK and now a JL. I am currently on a Metal Cloak 3.5” game changer. I really like the 6pak shocks. They allow an amazing amount of flex. I can’t compare them to the RK kit, but I know they make quality stuff. With that in mind I am sure they will work well for your project.

If you get the 6pks you’ll be close to over extending the springs. The MC springs are an inch longer at free length, so if the 6 pks have more than 12” travel you might have to run limiting straps to keep the coils seated…..

The 6-packs provide up to 15" of total potential travel. They may be a tad shorter than the RK shocks in themselves, but they also get paired with front upper relocation brackets that drip the upper mounting points by about 2.5". That allows them to function as nearly 33" extended length, minus the downside of the longer collapsed length.

One of the reasons that I went with Antirocks was because the Rock Krawler No Limits links were inverting before full droop. After I fully extended them, the 3.5" Metalcloak springs were starting to unseat and the links were still threatening to invert. It took the new Metalcloak 4.5" springs and the longer Antirock links to keep up with the droop that the 6-packs provide.

The same 1561 fronts and 1562 rears are used with the 3.5" and 4.5" springs.

I started off with the 3.5" springs and 38x13.5's. After making the jump to 40x13.5's, to further improve approach/break over/departure angles and diff clearance, I wasn't crazy about the loss of uptravel. That's where the 4.5" springs came into play. The only other changes that needed to be made to the Gamechanger, were readjusting the control arms and track bars.

Here's a couple of reference pics. First is of the 3.5" springs and 38's. Second is 3.5's and 40's. Third is 4.5's and 40's. Also worth mentioning, the 3.5's actually gave about 4" of lift front and back over stock, and the 4.5's gave 5.5" in the front and 6" in the rear.
